Bill and Hillary Clinton just committed contempt of Congress and now they’re in big trouble

The Clintons have held massive amounts of influence for decades. But now they are crashing down.

Because Bill and Hillary Clinton committed contempt of Congress and now they’re in big trouble.

Clintons Dodge House Subpoenas in Ongoing Epstein Probe

Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary Clinton, chose not to appear for their scheduled closed-door depositions before the House Oversight Committee this week, prompting the Republican chairman to initiate contempt of Congress proceedings against them.

The couple’s decision comes amid the Justice Department’s gradual release of documents tied to Jeffrey Epstein’s s*x-trafficking operations, raising questions about their past associations with the late financier and his accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell.

While the Clintons maintain they have little to offer the investigation, their absence has fueled criticism that they’re avoiding scrutiny despite bipartisan support for the subpoenas.

Declarations of Limited Knowledge and Accusations of Bias

In written statements, the Clintons asserted they possess “no personal knowledge” of Epstein or Maxwell’s crimes and played no role in overseeing related investigations as private citizens.

Bill Clinton specifically noted, “I do not recall speaking to Mr. Epstein for more than a decade prior to his 2019 arrest,” and “I have never visited Little St. James Island.”

He described his post-White House interactions with Epstein as limited to using the jet for “philanthropic and life-saving humanitarian efforts.”

The couple’s eight-page letter to Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) accused the committee of selective targeting, claiming Republicans were “trying to punish those who you see as your enemies and to protect those you think are your friends.”

They argued the subpoenas were “invalid and legally unenforceable,” suggesting Comer had ignored calls to pressure the DOJ into releasing all Epstein files and instead focused on them over others who might know more.

The letter added, “Every person has to decide when they have seen or had enough and are ready to fight for this country, its principles and its people, no matter the consequences. For us, now is that time.”

Committee Pushback and Broader Implications

Comer fired back, emphasizing the bipartisan nature of the subpoenas: “Bill Clinton did not show up, and I think it’s important to note that this subpoena was voted on in a bipartisan manner by this committee. This wasn’t something that I just issued as chairman of the committee. This was voted on by an entire subcommittee in a unanimous vote to subpoena former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.”

He contrasted their no-show with the committee’s questioning of former Attorney General Bill Barr, noting, “We had Bill Barr, former attorney general, in for a grilling. But for whatever reason, President Clinton didn’t show up, and the Democrats on the committee don’t seem to have a problem.”

The episode revives longstanding ties between the Clintons and Epstein, including Bill Clinton’s multiple flights on the financier’s plane before his 2008 guilty plea and Maxwell’s attendance at Chelsea Clinton’s 2024 wedding. Recent DOJ releases, including photos of Clinton in compromising settings, add to the tension.

If held in contempt, the Clintons could face arrest by Capitol Police, though their reps have denied any wrongdoing and disputed claims of island visits, countering allegations from a former Epstein employee in a 2020 documentary.

A Clinton spokesman didn’t respond to further inquiries, leaving the matter hanging as the probe into Epstein’s network drags on with most files still unreleased.
