Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle Gets Grilled Before Congress, Resigns the Next Day
On Monday this week, the Director of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, appeared before Congress under the pretense of a subpoena to answer the major questions congress-members and the American public have about the Trump shooting tragedy in Butler, Pennsylvania. She did not have an easy go at all. This wasn’t just any hearing where some congress-members ask some tough questions and then everyone goes on their merry way.
No, even Democrats were forced to grill her because everyone wants to know how the Secret Service made such colossal mistakes that led to the assassination attempt of former President Trump that was truly just one inch away from plunging America into utter chaos. Not only that, but blood is on her hands as the head of the Secret Service since one man tragically lost his life.
U.S. House Representative Nancy Mace, a Republican from South Carolina, made headlines when she got so frustrated with Cheatle not being forthcoming with the American people about the serious questions that are looming in the aftermath of the tragedy that she said she was “full of sh**”.

Today on Tuesday the 23rd of July, it is being reported that Cheatle has sent an email to her colleagues announcing that she would be resigning from her post as the Director of the Secret Service. A copy of the email circulating in the agency was obtained by reporters on the story.
“I take full responsibility for the security lapse,” Cheatle had to say in her email. Interestingly, she didn’t seem to be that willing to accept responsibility during her appearance in Congress. “In light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to step down as your director,” she went on to add in the email.
How this was a difficult decision for her is astounding. Absolutely no one believed that she was fit for that role anymore. This mistake is so colossal and so unbelievable that there will be ripple effects from this tragedy that carry on for years and years. It’s a history book moment. There will be entire chapters in history books in high schools and universities dedicated to this tragedy because of how unbelievable it is.
President Joe Biden’s Odd Response
In response to the news that Cheatle was resigning, President Joe Biden’s team put out a statement saying that he was “grateful” for Kim Cheatle’s service in the DHS-supervised agency.
“Jill and I are grateful to Director Kim Cheatle for her decades of public service,” the official statement from the Biden administration reads, as posted on the White House website. “She has selflessly dedicated and risked her life to protect our nation throughout her career in the United States Secret Service. We especially thank her for answering the call to lead the Secret Service during our Administration and we are grateful for her service to our family,” the statement went on to add.
Many Americans aren’t going to like hearing anything nice about Kimberly Cheatle, under any circumstances at all. She is responsible for what happened that day and there are still not enough answers. The American people still don’t have a clear picture of how this was allowed to happen.
Saying that she was “selfless” in her service just doesn’t mean anything to Americans right now because she’s viewed as someone who is responsible for the country almost being plunged into chaos. Only one inch away from that happening.
Later on in the official statement, the Biden team says that there is an “independent review” going on to fully understand what happened and led to that tragedy taking place in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“The independent review to get to the bottom of what happened on July 13 continues, and I look forward to assessing its conclusions,” President Biden’s official statement reads. “We all know what happened that day can never happen again. As we move forward, I wish Kim all the best, and I will plan to appoint a new Director soon.”
It’s not controversial to say that most Americans are going to wish Joe Biden never made a “nice” statement about Cheatle and just let the door hit her on the way out. That’s how poorly Americans are viewing Cheatle right now. There’s no way around this.
When even Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is putting aside the partisanship and locking arms with Republicans to absolutely grill Cheatle, you know you’ve made a mistake unlike anything anyone has ever made in American history. She deserves no grace, period.
