Usually the Swamp can keep their crimes hidden away. But that’s not true for one unlucky Leftist.
And this Democrat Senator just entered a plea after being arrested for one despicable act.
Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey pleaded not guilty Monday to a fresh indictment charging him with obstruction of justice as part of a wide investigation in which he allegedly took money and used his Capitol Hill position to serve as a foreign agent for Egypt.
Mr. Menendez and his wife, Nadine Arslanian Menendez, were arraigned in the Southern District of NY.
The Democratic senator returned to court for his third plea in the case, which also charges him with bribery and extortion.
Last year, prosecutors accused Mr. Menendez of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in exchange for activities that benefited foreign individuals.
The indictment stated the gifts included gold bars and a luxury automobile.
The latest allegations say that the senator coerced his lawyers into providing misleading information to investigators.
“Once again, not guilty your honor,” Mr. Menendez said Monday in the courtroom, and the judge stood by a May 6 trial date, according to ABC News.
Mr. Menendez, who survived a previous criminal lawsuit against him, has refused calls to resign from the Senate, where Democrats hold a slim majority.
He stepped down as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, but he hasn’t said whether he’ll run for reelection this year.
After court, the senator and his wife headed straight to their car as reporters questioned him about his future plans.
Prominent Democrats are gearing up to succeed him, including state first lady Tammy Murphy and Rep. Andy Kim, who will compete in a June primary.
Another defendant in the case, New Jersey businessman Jose Uribe, has pled guilty and is working with authorities.
What’s missing in all of the discussion surrounding this is a media bonanza.
Most people know that “someone” did “something” and they are being prosecuted “somewhere.”
But you don’t see Senator Menendez’s face plastered on every major news network.
Meanwhile, when the media had no evidence that Trump colluded with Russia, we got 24/7 coverage of it.
