It’s been a while since Fauci’s name has been brought up. And now it’s not for a great reason.
Because Dr. Fauci may finally get what he deserves thanks to this Republican Senator.
Sen. Rand Paul Calls for Fauci to Face Charges Over Congressional Testimony
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, has urged the Justice Department to charge former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci with lying to Congress, aiming to test the validity of a pardon issued by former President Joe Biden.
In an interview with pro-Trump activist Charlie Kirk, Paul stated, “I do believe Anthony Fauci committed a felony by lying to Congress,” suggesting that charging Fauci could challenge Biden’s use of an autopen for pardons, including those for Fauci, Hunter Biden, and others.
Paul highlighted Fauci’s testimony denying National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding for gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China, claiming it was “directly contradicted by the actual people who were involved in the funding.”
While Biden told The New York Times he personally approved the pardons, Paul’s push reflects ongoing scrutiny of Fauci’s role in the COVID-19 response, particularly his inconsistent statements that fueled public distrust.
Fauci’s Inconsistent COVID-19 Guidance Under Fire
Paul’s allegations center on Fauci’s congressional testimony, particularly his May 2021 claim that the NIH “has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”
This was later contradicted by NIH documents and statements from researchers, including a 2021 letter from NIH official Lawrence Tabak admitting funding for experiments enhancing viral transmissibility.
Fauci’s shifting stances during the COVID-19 pandemic—such as initially downplaying mask efficacy in March 2020 before advocating universal masking, and his evolving guidance on social distancing and school closures—drew criticism for confusing the public.
His insistence on the natural origin of SARS-CoV-2, while dismissing lab-leak hypotheses as conspiracy theories, further eroded trust when evidence later suggested a lab origin was plausible.
These inconsistencies, coupled with allegations of misleading Congress, have made Fauci a focal point for critics like Paul, who argue his actions undermined transparent public health policy.
Pardon Debate and Broader Accountability Efforts
The controversy over Fauci’s pardon, signed via autopen alongside those for Hunter Biden, former Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley, and Jan. 6 committee members, has sparked debate about the legality of such pardons.
Paul argued, “You have to charge him with a felony, take him to court and then the court will decide whether or not the pardon is upheld,” questioning whether Biden’s approval was sufficiently direct.
While Biden told The Times, “I made every decision,” some Republicans remain skeptical, though others doubt the feasibility of challenging the pardons.
The push to hold Fauci accountable aligns with broader efforts to scrutinize the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, including NIH funding decisions and public health messaging.
