Despite the best efforts of RINOs everywhere, Trump is the frontrunner for the GOP nomination. But now they threw something straight out of left field.
And Donald Trump is furious after the RNC hit him with one major bombshell.
The 2024 Republican primary has become all but a formality at this point.
Trump has faced his contenders head on, and beaten them at every turn.
Even his biggest opposition, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, dropped out and threw his weight behind the former president.
Only Nikki Haley is left, and her chances aren’t looking good.
That’s why the RNC tried to do everyone a favor and end the spectacle.
On Thursday, a Republican National Committee member withdrew a draft resolution declaring former President Donald Trump the presumptive nominee in 2024 in response to outcry and Trump’s own opposition.
Maryland RNC Committeeman Dave Bossie withdrew his resolution to designate Trump the presumptive nominee following his victories in Iowa and New Hampshire, as well as his lead against former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley in remaining state polls, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The draft resolution argued Haley had no mathematical road to the nomination and emphasized the importance of preparing for a general election confrontation with President Joe Biden.
When word of the proposed resolution leaked, Haley spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas remarked, “Who cares what the RNC says?”
“We’ll let millions of Republican voters across the country decide who should be our party’s nominee, not a bunch of Washington insiders,” she said in a statement.
“If Ronna McDaniel wants to be helpful, she can organize a debate in South Carolina, unless she’s also worried that Trump can’t handle being on the stage for 90 minutes with Nikki Haley,” Perez-Cubas said in a statement.
Trump took to Truth Social to address the issue, stating, “While I greatly appreciate the Republican National Committee (RNC) wanting to make me their PRESUMPTIVE NOMINEE, and while they have far more votes than necessary to do it, I feel, for the sake of PARTY UNITY, that they should NOT go forward with this plan, but that I should do it the ‘Old Fashioned’ way, and finish the process off AT THE BALLOT BOX.”
“Thank you to the RNC for the Respect and Devotion you have shown me! TRUMP2024,” he said.
For Trump, this is a very smart play.
He knows he has the votes around the nation to win the nomination, and accepting the title without getting the votes could open him up to attacks that his nomination isn’t “legitimate.”
Better to win it fair and square.
Shortly after, it was verified that the resolution, which was scheduled to be addressed at the RNC’s winter conference next week, had been withdrawn.
