Americans are waiting with bated breath. We all want to know who will be running side by side with the former president.
And now this Trump VP announcement is leaving jaws on the floor.
Everything has been set for the 2024 match up except for one thing: Trump’s vice presidential pick.
Until now, there hasn’t been much coming out from the Trump campaign.
But now one of the people on the short list is speaking out, and we finally have a timeline.
Sen. Tim Scott said Sunday that he has yet to learn whether he is on the shortlist for former President Donald Trump’s running mate, despite seeing each other over the weekend.
“We had no conversations about the VP pick, to be honest with you, to be clear. But we had a lot of conversations about the failures of Joe Biden and the success of Donald Trump,” the South Carolina Republican said on NBC’s Meet the Press.
Mr. Scott said he hoped Mr. Trump will choose someone “who helps the country unite and heal,” and that the decision will be made within the next several months.
“I certainly expect to have a decision from President Trump in the next 60 days or so, but he did not bring it up. I certainly didn’t bring it up,” he said.
“I’m excited that in this nation a poor kid from South Carolina can rise to the level of being a United States senator,” he remarked.
“It just tells me that all things are possible for kids growing up in poverty today. Listen to this show and know that all things are possible for your future.”
Hundreds of donors and Republican legislators gathered at Mr. Trump’s private club Mar-a-Lago in South Florida this weekend for a gathering that some regarded as a method to determine who would be the greatest candidate for vice president.
In addition to Mr. Scott, Govs. Kristi Noem of South Dakota and Doug Burgum of North Dakota, Reps. Elise Stefanik of New York and Byron Donalds of Florida, and Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and J.D. Vance of Ohio have also been mentioned.
However, the Trump campaign has made it clear that they have made no decisions and only one person knows.
They reacted strongly to the reports, with senior advisor Brian Hughes declaring in a statement that “anyone claiming to know who or when President Trump will choose his VP is lying, unless the person is named Donald J. Trump.”
Another senior adviser, Chris LaCivita, was more belligerent on X, writing in response to those who are trying to guess: “Notice to reporters: you should not make these kind of assumptions and then commit them to paper … they will only come back to bite you in the a*s.”
Of course, Scott never said that he is sure, and he isn’t trying to force Trump to do anything.
With six months until the election, it’s a pretty safe bet to guess that he’ll pick someone in the next 60 days.
But who knows? Only Trump.
