Kamala’s VP pick is becoming more of a liability by the day. Now it’s just getting ridiculous.
And Tim Walz’s lies were just revealed by the last person you’d ever expect.
A recently surfaced video has exposed Minnesota Governor Tim Walz making the dubious claim that he “carried weapons of war into actual war.”
This bold assertion is now under fire, especially since the Minnesota National Guard has contradicted Walz’s statement, pointing out that he never actually saw combat but instead avoided any real conflict and chose to retire, leaving his troops behind.
Walz, who has been tapped as Kamala Harris’s running mate in her presidential bid, served 25 years in the National Guard, but it seems his service record is now being questioned.
The controversial video, which can be viewed on X, shows Walz attempting to appeal to voters by blending his military background with his stance on gun control.
In the video, Walz boasts, “I spent 25 years in the Army and I hunt. I’ve been voting for common sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment, but we can do background checks. We can research the impacts of gun violence. We can make sure those weapons of war, that I carried in war, are only carried in war.”
But this grandstanding has sparked criticism, especially from those who served with him.
Retired Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Behrends, who was a member of Walz’s battalion, didn’t hold back in his condemnation.
“To most people, that would mean that he was actually in combat, carrying a weapon in a combat zone and getting combat pay and in a dangerous and hostile environment where he is getting shot at,” Behrends said during an appearance on ‘The Ingraham Angle.’
However, the reality of Walz’s military service paints a very different picture. Despite his insinuations, Walz has never specified which war he supposedly fought in.
His time in the National Guard coincided with two wars in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, but none of these show up on his military record.
The Minnesota National Guard clarified to Fox News that Walz was involved in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) while stationed in Italy with his unit in 2005. But crucially, Walz retired before his unit was deployed into any combat situation.
“Walz left the National Guard in May 2005 after 24 years of service. His unit was not given deployment orders to Iraq until July. He had put his retirement papers in 5-7 months prior to his retirement in May,” the Guard stated.
Moreover, questions have arisen regarding his actual involvement in OEF. While Walz’s battalion was sent to Europe—specifically Vicenza, Italy—to train units in artillery, it’s debatable whether his service truly fits the traditional understanding of deployment in a combat zone.
According to the National Guard, if you’re deployed overseas in support of OEF, even if you never set foot in Afghanistan, it still counts as service in OEF.
This technicality appears in Walz’s official military service record.
As expected, Walz’s office responded to inquiries from Fox News Digital with an automated message, sidestepping the growing controversy.
The timing of this revelation is particularly significant, as Walz was just announced as Kamala Harris’s vice-presidential pick on the Democratic ticket.
As Harris looks to succeed President Biden and take on former President Donald Trump, this scandal could weigh heavily on the campaign.
In contrast, Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, who served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, took a direct shot at Walz’s questionable military legacy.
Speaking at an event in Michigan, Vance accused Walz of deserting his unit just as they were preparing to go to war.
“You abandoned your unit right before they went to Iraq,” Vance stated, driving home the point that Walz’s claims of military bravado might just be hollow rhetoric.
