The former president has been leading the pack for months. But this could bring all of it crashing down.
And Trump received an alarming test result that completely changes the 2024 race.
According to a new survey issued on Tuesday, with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. now running as an independent candidate rather than a Democrat, he is stealing some of Trump’s support, pushing Biden into the lead.
According to the NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist National Poll, in a two-way presidential election between Trump and Biden in 2024, 49 percent of registered voters said they would vote for Biden, 46 percent said they would vote for Trump, and 5 percent were undecided.
With Kennedy in the mix, Biden’s support among registered voters fell to 44 percent, while Trump’s fell to 37 percent.
Kennedy garnered 16% of registered voters’ support, with 3% remaining undecided.
The poll of 1,218 registered voters was conducted on October 11 and has a margin of error of 3.9 percent.
In a two-way contest, Trump had an advantage among independent voters over Biden, with 49 percent indicating they would vote for Trump and 43 percent saying they would vote for Biden. Only 8% were uncertain.
In a three-way race involving Biden, Trump, and Kennedy in 2024, 34 percent of independents said they would vote for Trump, 33 percent for Biden, and 29 percent for Kennedy. Only 4% were uncertain.
On October 9, Kennedy announced his intention to run for president as an independent candidate.
“I’m here to declare myself an independent candidate for president for the United States. I’m here to join you in making a new declaration of independence for our entire nation,” Kennedy said during the Philadelphia event, according to The Guardian.
“A rising tide of discontent is swamping our country. There’s a danger in this discontent but there’s also opportunity and promise,” Kennedy added.
What doesn’t make sense about this poll, though, is that Kennedy subscribes to many more Democrat policies than Republican ones.
He just recently came out in support of reparations for black Americans.
“Communities that were specifically targeted for destruction need to be specifically targeted for repair,” he states on his campaign website.
“During Jim Crow, Black banks, businesses, hospitals, schools, and farms were targeted for destruction. Racists knew that without these, the Black community had no chance of building wealth. We must set federal dollars aside to rebuild Black infrastructure.”
“These programs complement direct redress payments or tax credits to the descendants of the victims of Jim Crow and other victims of persecution,” the pledge continues.
“RFK Jr. will find ways to offer this redress that are legal, fair, and win the approval of Americans of all races.”
With rhetoric like this, it looks like RFK is trying to forge a path to the Left of Biden, not the Right.
Demorats should be worried, not Republicans.
