Do Democrats have no shame? They can’t even give it a couple weeks before making jokes about an assassination attempt.
And this CNN commentator made a sick joke about the Trump shooting that will make your stomach turn.
CNN commentator and former Obama administration official Van Jones remarked that it was the Democrats who “dodged a bullet” after former President Trump finished his extensive nomination acceptance speech on Thursday night.
Trump officially accepted the GOP nomination following an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, just days prior.
His RNC speech, spanning approximately 92 minutes, touched on the chaos of the assassination attempt, his family, and President Biden. Critics, including Jones, found it to be disjointed and unfocused.
“Trump dodged a bullet on Saturday and Democrats dodged a bullet tonight,” Jones commented after Trump’s speech, a remark that could be seen as insensitive given the recent assassination attempt.
“That was a mess,” Jones continued.
“That was just a big mess,” adding that Trump “just couldn’t help himself.”
Jones argued that if President Biden had delivered a speech “that incoherent, that rambling” and “that undisciplined,” Democrats would have intervened.
Reflecting on Trump’s political momentum post-assassination attempt, Jones said, “He had the whole world in his hands. If he had just stayed with that unity message, he might have caused some problems. He just could not help himself.”
According to Jones, Trump’s speech shifted the campaign from a unique political moment following his survival back to a “normal campaign dynamic.”
He criticized Trump for being “boring” and undisciplined during what had been the “most energetic convention.”
“Trump took what was the most energetic convention, and he was boring,” Jones stated.
“He took the most disciplined convention, and he was undisciplined.”
He highlighted the contrast between Trump’s brief unity message and his subsequent attacks on Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, and bizarre references to Hannibal Lecter.
“That is not a new Trump,” Jones remarked.
CNN commentator David Axelrod echoed Jones’s sentiments, suggesting that Trump’s speech was the first positive development for Democrats in weeks, amid their internal turmoil and growing calls to replace Biden on the 2024 ticket.
Earlier on Thursday, Jones had compared the energy at this week’s Republican National Convention to the enthusiasm he witnessed when former President Obama was first nominated in 2008.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
