The Left can’t handle any sort of adversity. They’re completely unhinged.
And a Democrat candidate explodes during an interview after being asked this question.
Katie Porter, the Democrat eyeing California’s governorship, completely lost her cool during a recent interview, attempting to bail out when pressed on a straightforward question about appealing to Trump voters. The leaked video shows her fumbling with her mic and declaring, “I don’t want this all on camera,” exposing what many see as her thin skin under real scrutiny.
This meltdown happened last month in a sit-down with CBS reporter Julie Watts, but the footage only hit the public eye on Tuesday. Porter, infamous for her alleged kitchen rage where she reportedly dumped hot mashed potatoes on her ex-husband’s head, couldn’t handle the heat when the conversation turned to winning over the Golden State’s Republican base.
The reporter simply asked: “What do you say to the 40% of California voters, who you’ll need in order to win, who voted for Trump?” It was a fair shot at how she’d bridge the divide in a state that’s not all blue.
Porter started off claiming she’d chase every vote and build coalitions, but things escalated fast. She shot back with irritation: “I feel like this is unnecessarily argumentative. What is your question?”
Watts calmly replied, “Every other candidate has answered this question. This is not argumentative.” But that didn’t calm the storm; Porter began yanking at her microphone, ready to bolt.
“I don’t want to keep doing this. I’m going to call it,” Porter announced, clearly flustered. She added, “I want to have a pleasant, positive conversation… And if every question you’re going to make up a follow-up question, then we’re never going to get there.”
Later, she emphasized her discomfort with the cameras rolling, and sniped, “I’ve never had to do this before,” insisting she’d never cut an interview short. Critics jumped on that, arguing it proves she’s dodged tough grilling in the past.
During her congressional stint, Porter loved setting traps in hearings to snag viral clips, but apparently, she can’t take what she dishes out. This incident paints her as someone who thrives on gotcha moments against others but crumbles when the tables turn.
Her campaign tried damage control after the video spread like wildfire online, noting the interview went on for another 20 minutes. Still, questions linger about whether the full thing will ever air and what else got edited out.
Porter kicked off her gubernatorial bid back in March, positioning herself as the top dog with a solid lead in polls. RealClearPolitics had her up by seven points over competitors, but this blowup might shake that foundation.
Fellow Democrats wasted no time piling on. State Superintendent Tony Thurmond blasted her: “This is a pattern for [Katie Porter]. No candidate for Governor should hide from the press or mistreat them — we owe it to the public to be transparent.” He added, “If she can’t answer basic questions from a reporter, how can Californians expect her to stand up to President Trump?”
Former state Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa kept it blunt: “We need a leader who will solve hard problems and answer simple questions.” It’s a direct hit at her evasion tactics.
Even Xavier Becerra, ex-Health and Human Services Secretary, took a swing: “I’m not interested in excluding any vote. Every Californian deserves affordable health care, safe streets, a roof over their head and a living wage.” His words highlight how Porter’s dodge alienates potential supporters.
With Governor Gavin Newsom hitting term limits and Kamala Harris sitting this one out, the race is anyone’s game. Porter’s history in the House from 2019 to early 2025 ended on a sour note after losing the Senate primary to Adam Schiff in a brutal fight.
Post-defeat, she stirred controversy by hinting at foul play: “Because of you, we had the establishment running scared — withstanding 3 to 1 in TV spending and an onslaught of billionaires spending millions to rig this election.” She later clarified, “‘rigged’ means manipulated by dishonest means,” but the damage was done, fueling doubts about her stability.
