Trump is officially a convicted felon. But not everyone on the Left wants him to go to jail.
And now Donald Trump was hit with huge pardon news from the last place he ever expected.
Rep. Dean Phillips stated that pardoning former President Donald Trump for his criminal conviction would be “for the good of the country.”
Mr. Phillips, a Minnesota Democrat who ran unsuccessfully for president this year, said New York Gov. Kathy Hochul should consider the pardon not to exonerate him but to heal the country.
Keep in mind that he does not think Trump is a good guy or not guilty, it’s all politics.
“Donald Trump is a serial liar, cheater, and philanderer, a six-time declarer of corporate bankruptcy, an instigator of insurrection, and a convicted felon who thrives on portraying himself as a victim,” Mr. Phillips stated on X.
“Gov. Kathy Hochul should pardon him for the good of the country.”
Mr. Trump was convicted on Thursday of 34 criminal counts, including manipulating business documents to hide a $130,000 hush money payment to p*rn star Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 election.
Mr. Phillips predicted that the verdict would increase Mr. Trump’s campaign donations and raise his poll numbers.
“You think pardoning is stupid? Making him a martyr over a payment to a p*rn star is stupid. (Election charges are entirely different,)” he said.
“It’s energizing his base, generating record sums of campaign cash, and will likely result in an electoral boost.”
Frankly, this would be a smart move on the part of Democrats.
Indeed, following the guilty decision delivered by a Manhattan jury, Mr. Trump’s campaign and Republican organizations broke financial records.
Eric Trump, the ex-president’s son, boasted about earning $52.8 million less than a full day after his father’s conviction.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee likewise reported record fundraising totals.
Not only that, but the ramifications at the ballot box are yet to be seen.
Many conservatives already believe their is a two-tiered justice system in this country that favors those on the political Left.
This verdict serves only to confirm those beliefs.
Mr. Trump is due to be sentenced on July 11, but we’ll see if that actually happens.
