Kamala Harris’ security detail abandoned her for jaw dropping reason

Former Vice President Harris has been licking her wounds. But things could get so much worse.

Because her detail just abandoned her for a jaw dropping reason.

Elite Unit Pulled: Harris Loses LAPD Protection

In a swift reversal, the Los Angeles Police Department’s elite Metropolitan Division, known for tackling high-stakes crime, has ceased providing security for former Vice President Kamala Harris as of September 6.

The unit stepped in after President Donald Trump abruptly revoked Harris’ Secret Service detail on August 29, a move that left California officials scrambling.

The decision to deploy LAPD officers, however, sparked immediate backlash, with the Los Angeles Police Protective League slamming it as “nuts” and a misuse of resources.

“We are happy to report that the Metro officers assigned to protect the multimillionaire failed presidential candidate are back on the street fighting crime,” the union’s board declared.

The short-lived arrangement exposed Harris’ reliance on taxpayer-funded protection, raising questions about her disconnect from the public’s priorities.

Political Backfire: Harris’ Security Gambit Fails

The LAPD’s involvement, directed by Mayor Karen Bass, was meant to be a stopgap after Trump ended Harris’ extended Secret Service protection, which former President Joe Biden had stretched to July 2026, beyond the standard six-month period for vice presidents. Bass called Trump’s move an “act of revenge” that put Harris “in danger,” but her decision to divert Metro officers from crime suppression in the San Fernando Valley drew fierce criticism.

“The plan was always to provide temporary support, and I thank L.A.P.D. for protecting former V.P. Harris and always prioritizing the safety of all Angelenos,” Bass told The New York Times, yet her office dodged multiple requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

The California Highway Patrol, approved by Governor Gavin Newsom, also stepped in, but Newsom’s office remained cagey, with spokesperson Izzy Gardon stating, “Our office does not comment on security arrangements.”

Harris’ camp, silent on why her protection was cut, now faces the reality of arranging private security as she gears up for a multi-city book tour to promote her memoir, 107 Days.

Hochul’s Silence: A Pattern of Evasion

New York Governor Kathy Hochul, a close ally of Harris, has conspicuously avoided addressing the controversy, mirroring her recent refusal to disclose costs for the ill-fated “Frankie Focus” mascot campaign.

While Harris’ security detail crumbled under public and union pressure, Hochul’s lack of comment suggests a broader Democratic tendency to sidestep accountability.

The LAPD’s withdrawal, celebrated by the union as a return to “fighting crime,” emphasizes the misstep of prioritizing a high-profile figure over community safety, especially in a city grappling with a $1 billion budget deficit.

The Wall Street Journal noted that Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, also lost his Secret Service detail in July, further highlighting the administration’s rollback of protections for Democratic figures.

As Harris navigates this fallout, her failure to secure private security—despite her wealth and political connections—paints a picture of entitlement, leaving taxpayers to question why public resources were ever diverted for her benefit.
