The mainstream media usually goes to bat for the Left. But they know they can’t keep up the charade.
And now MSNBC admitted one truth about Donald Trump that left Democrats steaming mad.
MSNBC’s Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, long-time critics of Donald Trump, made headlines Monday by revealing they held a “personal” sit-down with the president-elect at Mar-a-Lago.
The surprising meeting, aimed at “restarting communications,” came after Trump’s overwhelming victory left them conceding to the voters’ choice.
Scarborough and Brzezinski, known for their relentless attacks on Trump over the years, admitted the face-to-face with him on Friday was their first meeting in seven years. They reached out after his decisive election win to reestablish dialogue, signaling a dramatic shift in their tone.
“Five years of political warfare has deeply divided Washington and the country,” Brzezinski, 57, acknowledged as she opened Monday’s show.
“We have been as clear as we know how in expressing our deep concerns about President Trump’s actions and words in the coarsening of public debate. But for nearly 80 million Americans, election denialism, public trials, January 6th were not as important as the issues that moved them to send Donald Trump back to the White House with their vote.”
Brzezinski added, “Joe and I realize it’s time to do something different, and that starts with not only talking about Donald Trump, but also talking with him.”
Scarborough, 61, shared details of their discussion, which touched on divisive topics like abortion, deportation, and political retribution.
“It will come as no surprise to anybody who watches this show, or has watched it over the past decade, that we didn’t see eye to eye on a lot of issues, and we told him so,” he said.
However, the meeting reportedly ended on a conciliatory note, with Brzezinski stating that Trump “was cheerful and upbeat” and “seemed interested in finding common ground with Democrats.”
Trump, 78, confirmed the cordial tone of the discussion in an interview with Fox News Digital. “Many things were discussed, and I very much appreciated the fact that they wanted to have open communication,” he said. Trump highlighted the co-hosts’ praise for his “flawless” campaign, calling it “one for the history books.”
Trump further emphasized his readiness to engage with the media but issued a warning: “If not treated fairly, however, that will end.”
The meeting sparked fierce backlash online. Critics accused the MSNBC duo of hypocrisy, given their history of comparing Trump to authoritarian figures. Republican strategist Scott Jennings sarcastically remarked, “Hitler getting a lot more meeting requests than I would’ve thought.” Others, like Free Press columnist Eli Lake, questioned why Trump would bother engaging with them at all.
Some social media users suggested the meeting was more about saving face — and careers — than bridging divides. “Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski didn’t go to Mar-a-Lago to achieve unity with Trump. They went because their network is down 50% viewership and is on the verge of being sold — so they went and kissed the ring,” one user wrote on X.
Scarborough tried to deflect the criticism during Monday’s show, insisting the meeting wasn’t an effort to “defend or normalize” Trump but to offer insights during what he called “deeply unsettling times.”
For Trump, the meeting underscored his shift toward a more measured approach in his second term.
“While many others are calling for meetings, I am not looking for retribution, grandstanding or to destroy people who treated me very unfairly,” Trump said. “I am always looking to give a second and even third chance, but never willing to give a fourth chance. That is where I hold the line.”
In typical Trump fashion, the president-elect has made it clear: he’s extending an olive branch — but on his terms.
