Secret Service agents share four scary words in press briefing after Trump assassination

There’s been yet another attempt on Donald Trump’s life. This time it’s different.

Because Secret Service agents just confirmed everyone’s worst nightmare about the latest attempt on Trump’s life.

Second Assassination Attempt on Former President Trump Foiled by Secret Service

On Sunday, local and federal authorities confirmed during a press briefing that the Secret Service fired at an allegedly armed suspect in what the FBI is investigating as a second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The incident occurred near the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Trump’s campaign announced that the former president was safe after shots were fired in his vicinity. The Secret Service and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department did not disclose the suspect’s identity but confirmed he was in possession of an AK-47 and other concerning materials.

“Fortunately, we were able to locate a witness that came to us and said, ‘Hey, I saw the guy running out of the bushes, he jumped into a black Nissan and I took a picture of the vehicle and the tag,’ which was great. So we had that information. Our real-time crime center put it out to the license plate readers and we were able to get a hit on that vehicle on I-95, as it was headed into Martin County,” Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw shared.

The suspect was found with an AK-47-style rifle equipped with a scope, two backpacks, ceramic tiles, and a GoPro camera. These items were discovered near a fence on the golf course, where the suspect had apparently been hiding.

The incident reportedly began around 1:30 p.m. while Trump was on the golf course. Secret Service agents had been scouting each hole ahead of Trump, which led to the suspect being spotted. “A rifle barrel sticking out of the fence” triggered the Secret Service to engage the individual immediately, according to Sheriff Bradshaw. The former president was estimated to be 300 to 500 yards from the potential shooter.

While the suspect has not been officially named by authorities, news outlets such as Fox News have reported his identity. Secret Service agents fired approximately four to six shots at the suspect, who then fled the scene in a black Nissan. Local authorities later apprehended the vehicle on I-95 in Martin County.

Martin County Sheriff William D. Snyder noted that the driver was “relatively calm” and showed little emotion when confronted by law enforcement, according to a report from Local 10.

The FBI has since taken the lead in the investigation. Special Agent Jeffrey Veltri stated that the agency had deployed several resources, including investigative teams, bomb technicians, and crisis response units, to aid in the case. The FBI is treating the event as “an attempted assassination of former President Trump.”

A spokesman for the Secret Service mentioned that the investigation is ongoing and that it is not yet clear if the suspect fired back at the agents. He emphasized that “the threat level is high,” referencing the proximity of this incident to a previous attempt on Trump’s life in July.

“The threat level is high. We have increased the amount of assets that we’ve supported, so we are — we live in danger times, yes,” the spokesman remarked.

Trump’s son, Eric Trump, also took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share a statement from his father after the assassination attempt took place:

“There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL! Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again,” Trump wrote.

This marks the second assassination attempt on the former president in recent months, raising concerns about his security as he continues to be a central figure in U.S. politics.
