Top U.S. lawyer slaps Trump prosecutors with stark reality check

Donald Trump’s legal cases stand in his way. They could derail everything.

But a top U.S. lawyer just slapped Trump prosecutors with a harsh reality check.

Top Constitutional Lawyers Question Trump Prosecutor’s Motive To Delay Trump Case Until 2029

Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, has criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s suggestion to delay the remaining proceedings in Donald Trump’s case until the end of his presidential term in 2029.

Turley expressed his concerns on America Reports, stating that such a delay would primarily benefit Bragg and Judge Juan Merchan, but not serve the interests of the United States or justice. He argued that allowing a local district attorney to treat a sitting president as a “freak on a leash” for four years would be inappropriate and elevate the district attorney’s position to an unacceptable level.

The law professor emphasized that keeping the matter pending during Trump’s entire administration would be the worst possible scenario. He stated, “You cannot have a local district attorney treat a sitting president like a freak on a leash, where he just is able to say that, ‘I will finish this once you’re out of office'”.

“It elevates the district attorney to a grotesque level. It also leaves this local judge as determining the ultimate outcome of the president of the United States. It doesn’t serve the nation or justice to have that type of lingering question for the next four years,” Mr. Turley said during his Fox News appearance.

Turley suggested that Judge Merchan has an “off-ramp” to dismiss the case due to potential breaches of the U.S. Supreme Court’s presidential immunity ruling, which was issued after the verdict. However, he maintained that simply dismissing the case based on Trump’s election or re-election would not be appropriate.

“Now it certainly serves everyone in New York politically. It serves Bragg, it likely serves this judge politically, but it doesn’t serve the nation. And so the question that we’ll be looking at with this new hearing that’s likely to occur is whether the judge will listen to his better angels and dismiss this case,” Turley went on to add in his comments on the matter.

The case stems from Trump’s conviction in May on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Prosecutors have indicated they would not oppose a delay in Trump’s sentencing, currently scheduled for November 26.

Turley concluded by describing Bragg’s suggestion as “the face of rage,” adding that it’s “addictive” and “hard to let go.” He warned against allowing this situation to continue for four more years, emphasizing the potential negative impact on the nation and the justice system.

“It’s addictive. It’s hard to let go. And they want to drag this out for four more years,” Turley finished saying on Fox News.

Trump Team Declares Victory In Manhattan DA Case With Case Indefinitely Adjourned

On Tuesday afternoon, it was annonuced that the Manhattan trial had effectively been put to bed with the courts ruling that the case has no legs at this time, especially with Donald Trump preparing to take office in January again.

The Trump transition team released a statement saying that it was a “total and definitive victory for President Trump and the American people,” adding that it was a “lawless case” and they were seeking to get the case thrown out entirely so that it cannot be brought up again.

Noteworthy is that the Manhattan District Attorney’s office did say that they will completely reject any move to dismiss the case entirely. They want the option to bring it back when Donald Trump leaves office in 2029, which they would not be able to do due to the principle of double jeopardy. The moment this case is thrown out, it’s done and over with for good.
