Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York took to CNN’s News Central this week with a familiar Democrat talking point, insisting that President Donald Trump stands powerless against a so-called blue “tsunami” in the elections this fall.
The New York congressman painted a picture of inevitable Democratic triumph.
Meeks leaned hard into the “con man” narrative that certain Republicans floated a decade ago.
He declared, “I think of the assessments back in 2015, 2016, that Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, and even Lindsey Graham said Donald Trump is a con man. And again, he’s trying to con the American people. We know that through all the court cases that have gone through, with reference to voter fraud, that there was none and there is none.”
“But he is trying to con the American people, because if in fact, anybody wants to try to steal, to cheat in an election, it is Donald J. Trump himself. He’s tried time after time. He tries to flip the script on something that he really does. All you have to do is look at his life.”
That lengthy monologue ignored the very real concerns millions of Americans still hold about election security.
Instead of addressing those worries, Meeks simply declared the matter settled and pointed the finger straight at Trump.
Host Kate Bolduan pressed him on whether any of this rhetoric would actually move voters.
Meeks claimed Democratic primary enthusiasm would only grow stronger and declared that Trump “cannot stop the tsunami that’s going to take place on the Republican Party because of their failed policies.”
Meeks’ confidence rests on the idea that voters will punish Republicans for policies that many working Americans actually support—secure borders, energy independence, and an economy that puts American workers first.
Right-leaning voters see a different reality. They watch open borders, rising costs, and cultural overreach from the left and wonder how anyone can call those outcomes successful.
Meeks’ insistence that Republican policies are the problem rings hollow to families struggling with inflation and crime in Democrat-run cities.
The congressman’s attack also recycles the same personal smears that failed to stop Trump in 2016 and again in 2024.
