Politics are getting worse by the day. But this is absolutely insane.
And now a Democrat Congressman goes on CNN and completely loses his mind.
Swalwell’s Outlandish Redefinition of ‘Homeland Security’ Draws Scorn
In a baffling display of convoluted logic that prioritizes illegal immigrants over American safety, Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California appeared on CNN’s Situation Room Tuesday, arguing that true homeland protection means shielding undocumented workers from deportation rather than enforcing the law.
Swalwell, known for his headline-grabbing antics, twisted the concept of national security to frame routine immigration operations as “roving terror,” a stance that critics say reveals his detachment from real-world threats facing border agents and citizens alike.
His comments came amid backlash over violent clashes tied to resistance against the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
Swalwell invoked the tragic deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good, k*lled in January during confrontations between federal agents and anti-enforcement “rapid response networks” in Minneapolis.
“I see protecting the homeland is also protecting the vulnerable immigrants who are running through the fields and factories where they work, or the woman who’s been dragged by her hair and thrown into an unmarked van, or the allies in Minnesota, you know, a nurse named Pretti and a mom named Good who were publicly executed,” Swalwell said.
He continued, “And so if they can put in place reforms that end that, that stop the roving terror, Democrats are with them. But they also have plenty of funding from, you know, H.R. 1, the big brutal bill, to continue to operate. And so we’re asking for reforms that protect everyone in the community, not just the priorities of going after the most vulnerable.”
Violent Backlash Against Agents Undermines Swalwell’s Narrative
Swalwell’s plea for “reforms” ignores the skyrocketing dangers faced by ICE and CBP personnel, with attacks on agents surging 1,300% according to a January 8 Department of Homeland Security release—vehicular assaults up 3,200% and death threats soaring by 8,000%. Incidents of armed resistance have escalated, including agents being fired upon in Illinois and California, and ten separate vehicle attacks between January 4 and 10.
This hostile environment, fueled by organized opposition, casts doubt on Swalwell’s portrayal of federal enforcers as the aggressors, suggesting his “crazy” proposal could further embolden lawbreakers at the expense of those tasked with securing the borders.
Crackdown Successes Highlight Swalwell’s Misguided Priorities
The controversy erupted as Border Czar Tom Homan announced the conclusion of Operation Metro Surge on February 12, a targeted effort that netted over 12,000 illegal immigrants in custody—a clear win for public safety that Swalwell seems eager to undermine with his eccentric vision of “homeland security.”
By conflating deportation with execution and demanding protections for those here unlawfully, Swalwell’s remarks have invited ridicule, with observers questioning whether his ideas stem from genuine concern or a desperate bid for relevance in a Democratic Party grappling with electoral setbacks.
