Sometimes the truth is humiliating. And most people don’t want to sit around and deal with it.
Now this Leftist tried to silence a whistleblower during a Congressional hearing.
Congressional Hearing Sparks Debate Over ICE Violence
During a Wednesday Homeland Security Committee hearing, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) interrupted testimony from Mike Howell, president of the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project, who accused Democratic politicians of fueling an 830% surge in assaults against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from January 21 to July 14, 2025, compared to the previous year.
Howell stated, “The violence is getting out of control, and it is fueled by the demagoguery of politicians,” citing examples such as a congressmember’s arrest for interfering with federal officials and others advocating for violence to gain attention.
Thompson interjected, arguing that Howell’s remarks were “outside the scope” of the hearing, which was intended to examine the role of non-governmental organizations in facilitating illegal immigration during the Biden administration.
Escalating Threats Against ICE Agents
Howell’s testimony emphasized the increasing hostility toward ICE officers, stating, “Assaults against ICE officers are up over 830 percent.”
He urged Democrats to “stand down on their threats” against agents, pointing to incidents where armed extremists fired at federal agents and left-wing activists obstructed ICE operations.
Reports from The Daily Wire detailed how Democrats in Los Angeles shared hotel addresses hosting ICE agents, leading to protests that pressured at least one hotel to evict the agents.
Additionally, activists in the city supplied protesters with riot gear, including “over 100 pairs of work gloves, 50 helmets, and 500 masks at LA City Hall,” as one organizer claimed.
Broader Context of Immigration Enforcement Tensions
The hearing highlighted the contentious atmosphere surrounding immigration enforcement.
While Howell linked the violence to inflammatory political rhetoric, citing statements from Democratic figures encouraging resistance or comparing ICE actions to extreme measures, Thompson’s objection suggested a focus on maintaining the hearing’s intended scope.
The committee was examining how non-governmental organizations may have contributed to illegal immigration under the previous administration, a topic Thompson argued was unrelated to Howell’s claims about political rhetoric.
The reported 830% increase in assaults, combined with high-profile incidents like a congressmember’s arrest for impeding federal officers, highlights the escalating risks for ICE agents.
