Musk and Trump have had a falling out. And sides are being taken.
Now the House GOP rebuked Elon Musk for this attempted sabotage.
Trump and Musk Clash Over Big, Beautiful Bill
A fiery feud between President Donald Trump and tech titan Elon Musk has thrown Congressional Republicans into disarray, transforming the Big, Beautiful Bill into a political quagmire.
The once-promising legislation, championed by Trump as a cornerstone of his agenda, has sparked a high-stakes showdown, with Musk’s vocal opposition amplifying tensions.
The billionaire’s relentless attacks on the bill and its supporters have left GOP lawmakers scrambling, emphasizing Trump’s unyielding commitment to pushing his vision forward despite internal party fractures.
As the drama unfolds, Trump’s resolve to deliver for Americans remains steadfast, even as Musk’s influence complicates the path to victory.
Musk’s Escalating Assault on the Bill
The conflict ignited on Tuesday when Musk labeled the Big, Beautiful Bill a “disgusting abomination” on X, turning his ire on the 215 House Republicans who backed it last month.
“You know you did wrong,” Musk declared, intensifying his campaign against the legislation.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., attempted to de-escalate, stating, “I called Elon last night. He didn’t answer. But I hope to talk to him today.”
Instead of engaging, Musk doubled down, posting a striking image of Uma Thurman from a Quentin Tarantino movie poster with the caption, “K*LL the Bill.”
His refusal to negotiate privately and his public call to action—urging followers to pressure their senators and representatives—have rattled GOP unity, highlighting Trump’s challenge in rallying support for a bill critical to his economic goals.
GOP Defends Trump’s Vision Amid Musk’s Pressure
Despite Musk’s formidable influence, Congressional Republicans, aligned with Trump’s leadership, are holding firm.
House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington, R-Tex., acknowledged Musk’s sway, saying, “To say that it’s a problem or that it has created a bigger challenge for us, is true. He’s got a big voice. He’s got a big audience. And more importantly, it’s a credible voice.”
“But he’s wrong on this issue.” Speaker Johnson, exasperated, emphasized the urgency, stating, “Elon, look. We don’t have time for a brand new bill,” and added, “We can’t go back to the drawing board and we shouldn’t.”
While Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, one of only two House Republicans to oppose the bill, expressed a desire to improve it, noting, “Part of the goal with Musk and conservatives like me that have had reservations about the bill is make it better. The disappointing thing is this bill does grow deficits in this Congress,” the GOP remains focused on advancing Trump’s agenda.
Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., criticized Musk’s vague critiques, saying, “Give us some productive feedback that we can operate on. I can’t operate on platitudes,” as Republicans strive to navigate Musk’s opposition and secure the bill’s passage.
