Illegal immigration is depleting America’s resources. Republicans are trying to fix the issue before it gets even more out of hand.
And a Republican senator calls for an investigation into a corrupt illegal alien banking plot.
In an effort to crack down on illegal immigration, Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton is pushing the Trump administration to slam the door on illegal aliens tapping into the U.S. banking system. He’s calling for a full-scale probe into how these individuals are slipping through the cracks and gaining financial footholds in America.
Cotton fired off a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Breitbart News got an exclusive look at it. In the missive, the senator demands that the department launch a thorough examination of the lax rules that let illegal aliens snag bank accounts and other financial perks without a second glance at their status.
“Our immigration laws exist to protect American workers, ensure national security, and maintain our sovereignty,” Cotton said in the letter. “Financial regulations should not undermine these objectives. I believe thoughtful reform in this area is aligned with President Trump’s promise to end illegal immigration.”
Cotton zeros in on the chaos left behind by the Biden era, where millions of illegal aliens were dumped into American communities. Many of them, he points out, are waving around Matricula cards—foreign IDs that banks accept as proof of identity.
These cards let undocumented individuals open accounts, stash cash, and build economic ties here, all while dodging any real check on whether they’re supposed to be in the country at all. It’s a system that’s stacked against law-abiding citizens and rewards those who break the rules.
“Major financial institutions currently accept these foreign documents as primary identification, effectively extending the privileges of our financial system to those who entered or remain in the country illegally,” Cotton states.
He doesn’t stop there. Cotton argues that letting this continue erodes the very foundation of American law and order, making it easier for illegal aliens to dig in and stay put.
“Access to the American banking system is a privilege that should be reserved for those who respect our laws and sovereignty. When individuals are allowed to open accounts without verifying legal status, we are permitting illegal aliens to establish financial roots and integrate economically, all while bypassing the legal channels that millions use properly.”
The senator urges the Treasury to dig into powerful tools already on the books, like the USA PATRIOT Act and the Bank Secrecy Act, to block these accounts outright. It’s time, he says, to use federal muscle to enforce immigration integrity in the financial world.
This push aligns perfectly with President Trump’s no-nonsense stance on borders. After years of open-door policies under Biden that flooded the nation with unchecked migrants, leaders like Cotton are stepping up to restore control.
Backing up Cotton’s call is George Fishman, a senior legal fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies. Fishman recently dropped a hard-hitting report on these Matricula cards, laying out how the Treasury can scrap the rules that enable this mess.
In his analysis, Fishman makes it clear that the current setup is a gift to those here illegally, helping them settle in and avoid deportation by blending into the economy.
“… it makes absolutely no sense to keep Treasury Department regulations on the books that purposefully make it easier for illegal aliens to remain in the U.S.,” Fishman states. “The misbegotten regulations, which should never have been promulgated in the first place, need to be repealed.”
Cotton’s letter could spark real change, forcing big banks to stop coddling rule-breakers and prioritize Americans first.
It’s a reminder that every part of government—from borders to banks—needs to pull together to defend the nation’s interests.
As the Trump team ramps up efforts to secure the homeland, moves like this show that Republicans are serious about fixing the damage from past administrations and putting citizens back at the top of the priority list.
