No one ever said politicians were squeaky clean. But this is beyond the pale.
Now a U.S. Congresswoman was caught in a shameful act that could end her career.
AOC Hosts Webinar to Undermine Trump Administration’s Immigration Crackdown
As President Donald Trump’s administration steps up efforts to restore law and order with its mass-deportation initiative, far-Left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is working overtime to help illegal immigrants dodge immigration enforcement.
Ocasio-Cortez’s congressional office held a “Know Your Rights with ICE” webinar this week, teaming up with the Immigrant Defense Project to advise illegal immigrants on how to avoid deportation.
The nearly hour-long session, first reported by Straight Arrow News, gave attendees tips on how ICE operates, their legal rights when confronted by agents, and strategies to resist enforcement.
“ICE raids are political tactics, and they’re often intended to create fear,” said Genia Blaser, a lawyer with the Immigrant Defense Project, during the webinar.
“This is a time where there is a lot of fear. And in fear, it’s really important to have knowledge because knowledge is power.” Blaser went on to paint ICE officers as aggressive, saying enforcement encounters “can happen really quickly.”
The New York Democrat’s website now features a resource page advising immigrants not to open the door for ICE agents unless they have a warrant signed by a judge. “You can ask them to slip the warrant under the door,” the flyer instructs. The flyer also reminds illegal immigrants of their Fifth Amendment right to remain silent, their right to an attorney, and their right not to sign or provide documents without consulting legal counsel.
Her office is even encouraging those with open removal orders or concerns about ICE to submit privacy release forms so the congresswoman’s team can potentially intervene. The site includes contact information for pro-bono immigration lawyers in New York.
Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described Democratic Socialist, has been a vocal opponent of Trump’s immigration enforcement policies.
She vehemently opposed the recently passed Laken Riley Act, a law requiring the detention and deportation of illegal immigrants arrested for theft or property crimes. On the House floor, Ocasio-Cortez railed against the bill, claiming it was a dangerous attack on civil liberties.
“If a person is so much accused of a crime, if someone wants to point a finger and accuse someone of shoplifting,” she said, “they will be rounded up and put into a private detention camp and signed and sent out for deportation without a day in court.”
Of course, the law doesn’t deprive anyone of due process — it merely ensures that illegal immigrants who break the law face real consequences instead of getting a free pass from soft-on-crime Democrats.
Ocasio-Cortez isn’t alone in her effort to shield illegal immigrants. Fellow Squad members Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan have similar “Know Your Rights” resources on their websites.
Last month, Omar made headlines by reintroducing the Neighbors Not Enemies Act, a long-shot bill to repeal the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.
This longstanding law allows presidents to detain or deport foreign nationals deemed a threat to national security — a power Trump has pledged to use against foreign gangs and criminal organizations.
Trump has been clear about his intentions to protect American communities: “We will use the full and immense power of the federal and state law enforcement to eliminate the presence of all foreign gangs and criminal networks.”
But Omar fears the law could be used to target immigrants “based on their nationality, not based on their behavior.”
While the Trump administration works to restore order and prioritize American citizens, Ocasio-Cortez and her Squad allies remain more focused on protecting those who broke the law to enter the country in the first place.
