U.S. Senate has something despicable waiting in the White House for Trump

Washington, D.C. can’t believe what’s happening. Donald Trump is turning the Swamp upside down.

That’s why the U.S. Senate has something despicable waiting in the White House for Trump.

As soon as the announcement of the appointments Donald Trump would be making for his second administration started rolling in, the entire Washington, D.C. establishment started to collectively panic. Some of the individuals Donald Trump’s nominating to highly important positions are not controlled by the political class and the Washington, D.C. Swamp.

That freaks out anyone and everyone belonging to that corrupt class. Not since John F. Kennedy has there been a movement quite like this that has the D.C. world buzzing and trying to play defense. That’s what they’re doing right now, playing defense.

Several important appointments Donald Trump is seeking to make require U.S. Senate approval. Unfortunately for Donald Trump, the U.S. Senate bureaucrats are already planning behind-closed-doors how they can take down the nominations from Trump and usurp his second administration.

Sen. Chris Murphy Criticizes Trump’s Nomination of Matt Gaetz for Attorney General

On Wednesday, Democratic Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy sharply criticized President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Republican Florida Representative Matt Gaetz for Attorney General, warning that it signaled a dangerous attempt to politicize the Justice Department and target political adversaries.

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, touting Gaetz as a “deeply gifted and tenacious attorney” with a legal education from the College of William & Mary. The former president described Gaetz as someone who would put an end to what he called the “Weaponized Government” in Washington.

Murphy, however, dismissed Trump’s praise as a smokescreen, calling the selection “stunning” and predicting that it would have “cataclysmic” consequences for American democracy. Speaking on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper, Murphy expressed his concern that Gaetz’s appointment could mark a fundamental shift in how the Department of Justice operates, potentially undermining its impartiality and independence.

“I was walking off the Senate floor just moments ago when the news was announced,” Murphy said. “You could literally hear the jaws dropping to the floor of Republican senators who are now going to be in a position to stand up to Donald Trump in a way that they have been unwilling to.”

Murphy went on to highlight Gaetz’s deep ties to Trump, describing him as a staunch defender of the former president, particularly during the aftermath of the January 6th Capitol insurrection. “Matt Gaetz is dangerously unqualified, but that’s not the worst of it,” Murphy continued. “Gaetz has been Trump’s chief defender when it comes to Trump’s assault on democracy, his attempt to overthrow the government on January 6. And he has openly called for the abolition of law enforcement agencies if they don’t get in line with conservative political priorities.”

For Murphy, Gaetz’s nomination represents a direct threat to the integrity of the Justice Department. “Matt Gaetz is being nominated for one reason and one reason only,” Murphy asserted. “Because he will implement Donald Trump’s transition of the Department of Justice from an agency that stands up for all of us to an agency that is simply an arm of the White House designed to persecute and prosecute Trump’s political enemies.”

“This is a stunning announcement in some ways, but not surprising in others because Trump told us during the campaign that he was going to use the White House to go after people who politically opposed him,” Murphy said. “It seems this pick for the head of the Department of Justice is very much in line with the promises he made during the campaign.”

Murphy’s comments do not stand alone. Since Donald Trump announced Matt Gaetz for Attorney General, the entire Washington, D.C. political class started trying to figure out a way to end this nomination and prevent his confirmation to the role. It’s clear the establishment is terrified by Gaetz, and it truly makes you wonder why.

In addition to Gaetz’s nomination, Trump also revealed other key cabinet picks. Former Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard was named as his choice for Director of National Intelligence, while Republican Senator Marco Rubio of Florida was tapped to be Secretary of State. Trump also announced that Fox News host Pete Hegseth would be nominated for Secretary of Defense.

Murphy continued to emphasize the political nature of Trump’s choices, particularly Gaetz’s role as a political ally. “Matt Gaetz is being nominated because he will be and is today a political agent of Donald Trump,” Murphy said. “The ramifications of this pick, this particular pick, are stunning and potentially cataclysmic for American democracy. I hope that some Senate Republicans will see that.”

As Trump prepares to take office in January, he faces multiple federal prosecutions from special counsel Jack Smith related to his role in the January 6th Capitol riot and efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. However, reports indicate that the Department of Justice is considering how to wind down its legal cases against Trump, as DOJ policy typically prohibits the criminal prosecution of sitting presidents.
