The divide between Joe Biden and Donald Trump is wide. Which is what makes this request so confusing.
Because a U.S. Senator has begged Donald Trump to do this one appalling favor for Joe Biden.
A major sore spot for the Biden administration right now is the way they’ve utterly failed on the international level with foreign policy and protecting American interests.
It all started when President Biden completely fumbled the Afghanistan pullout and left Americans in the region without security and also left billions of dollars in military equipment paid for by the taxpayer.
That disaster sank Joe Biden and his approval ratings have never been able to recover ever since. His foreign policy is largely viewed as the worst of any President since Jimmy Carter between 1976-1980.
Even prominent Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have admitted that Joe Biden’s handling of political matters on the international level is downright awful.
Right now, the Biden administration is trying to broker a peace deal between Saudi Arabia and the state of Israel that is designed to create more cooperation between the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Israel in the coming years.
In order for this deal to be approved, it will need two-thirds majority support in the United States Senate before it can be ratified.
And right now, anything going through Congress with 66 or more votes is darn near impossible given the tightly contested nature of the Senate chamber as Democrats carry a slim one vote majority.
Many conservative Republicans in the Senate chamber are also suspicious about this deal, arguing that the United States needs to be distancing itself from matters involving Israeli relations with its neighboring states.
One U.S. Senator, however, is begging Donald Trump to announce his support for Joe Biden’s deal with the Israelis and the Saudis.
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told members of the media this week that he has personally asked Donald Trump to support the Biden brokered deal and said that Trump would get “his fair share of the credit.”
“I told President Trump, listen, this is the natural extension of the Abraham Accords, and if we can do it, let’s do it,” Graham said to Axios. “It doesn’t matter how it gets done, on whose watch it gets done. It’d be a good thing for the stability of the Middle East and our own national security, and President Trump deserves his fair share of credit.”
Furthermore, he tried to argue that because Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has apparently been “helpful” for the peace deal discussions, that Trump should support the deal.
“Jared Kushner has been very helpful. He had some ideas for the Palestinians. I know that he’s offered to help. I think the White House sees him as helpful,” Graham added.
No offense, Lindsey Graham, but this seems like one of the dumbest moves anyone who is running for President against the incumbent could possibly do.
Why on earth would Donald Trump assist Joe Biden with securing a foreign policy deal, regardless of how “good” it is? That only gives Joe Biden cover for when the general election season comes along and Trump and Biden are running directly against each other.
The failures of the Biden administration on foreign policy are well documented and Donald Trump most definitely wants to highlight that should he secure the Republican nomination for President.
Flattering Donald Trump with the idea that this peace deal is based on the Trump administration’s work does nothing for the former President. He wants a second term as President and helping the incumbent makes about as much sense as pigs flying.
