All the focus is on what is going to happen to Donald Trump in his indictment cases. But no one saw this coming.
Because this assassination attempt involving Donald Trump has sent Washington, D.C. into total chaos.
A woman from Texas has been charged with making death threats against the judge in former President Donald Trump’s legal proceedings in Washington, D.C.
Federal judge Tanya Chutkan received a threatening voicemail on August 5 from Abigail Jo Shry of Alvin, Texas, according to court filings.
The 2020 presidential election conspiracy case against Trump is being overseen by Judge Chutkan.
After using a racial epithet, Shry allegedly remarked, “Hey, you stupid sl*ve,” in the message. According to the criminal complaint, she then threatened to k*ll “all Democrats in Washington, D.C., and all people in the LGBTQ community” if they opposed Trump.
To paraphrase what Shry allegedly said to Chutkan, “You are in our sights, we want to k*ll you,” and “If Trump doesn’t get elected in 2024, we are coming to k*ll you, so tread lightly, b****.”
The complaint states that Shry threatened to “personally” and “publicly” harm Chutkan and her family.
Sheila Jackson Lee, a Democrat from Texas’s congressional delegation, was also allegedly threatened by Shry in the message, with the words “We want to k*ll Sheila Jackson Lee.”
According to the complaint, investigators were able to pin the threatening message on Shry after tracking down his phone number.
In court filings, “Shry stated that she had no plans to travel to Washington, D.C., or Houston to carry out anything she stated, adding that if Shelia Jackson Lee comes to Alvin, then we need to worry,” she said.
Shry faces up to five years in jail if convicted of the felony charge of interstate transmission of a threat to injure another person.
According to the Washington Examiner, on Monday, Magistrate Judge Sam S. Sheldon ruled that Shry would be held without bond during a preliminary detention hearing because she has been charged multiple times in the past year for similar conduct, at least two of which resulted in convictions.
When Shry left the threatening voicemail at Chutkan’s office, she was out on bond after being charged with the misdemeanor threat inducing fear of impending serious bodily injury on July 11.
On August 1, Trump’s case initiated by special counsel Jack Smith was assigned to Chutkan, who was appointed by former President Barack Obama in 2014. Trump faces four counts related to a plot to deceive the government and prevent the 2020 election results from being certified.
Chutkan’s role in the case has been criticized by Republicans, who point to her long jail sentences for Jan. 6 offenders and her support to Obama’s campaign before her confirmation to the federal bench.
Security for Chutkan has been increased after she was accused of bias by Trump and his allies.
The optics here for Donald Trump are obviously not great, to put it lightly.
Former President Trump’s legal team needs to defend Donald Trump against the legal accusations that Trump was inciting his base to start an insurrection leading up to January 6, 2021.
Even though Donald Trump has said countless times that he never condoned any violence leading up to his leaving office and Joe Biden’s moving into the White House, the narrative in this case is that he tried to conspire against the results of the 2020 election.
Donald Trump’s base may have a few wackos like Shry, but that doesn’t mean Donald Trump is guilty of anything someone else was trying to do.
