She hasn’t been a candidate for long. But she’s already ruffling feathers.
And now cold-footed Kamala has an announcement that is raising Democrats’ eyebrows.
The Harris campaign is throwing a fit over the upcoming ABC News presidential debate, refusing to sign off on the rules because they’re unhappy about the microphones being muted — a tactic that seems more about avoiding tough questions than anything else.
Scheduled for September 10, the debate was supposed to follow the same guidelines agreed upon by the Biden and Trump campaigns, including muting mics outside of speaking time.
However, the Harris camp is now claiming that the rules are still up in the air and they’re in “negotiations” with ABC.
Harris spokesperson Brian Fallon took to X on Thursday, spinning a tale that Trump’s team doesn’t trust him to spar live with Harris and wants the mics muted despite Trump himself saying he’d be fine without it.
Fallon’s post dripped with the kind of weak excuse-making we’ve come to expect:
“We have been asked to accede to Trump’s handlers’ wishes on this point for the sake of preserving the debate. We find the Trump team’s stance to be weak and remain in discussions with ABC on the final rules.”
In a reply to CNN correspondent Hadas Gold, who reported that the Harris campaign was pushing back on the muted mics to let the debate proceed, Fallon doubled down.
He insisted the memo from ABC was just a draft and that both candidates supposedly want live mics. Fallon questioned why Trump’s staff is “overruling their principal,” implying Trump is being manipulated by his team.
Senior Trump advisor Jason Miller wasted no time in shutting down this nonsense, telling Fox News Digital that the debate rules are “set and finalized,” accusing Harris’ team of trying to create an excuse to back out in case her recent interview with CNN’s Dana Bash doesn’t go well.
Miller pointed out the obvious: “The Harris camp, after having already agreed to the CNN rules, asked for a seated debate, with notes, and opening statements. We said no changes to the agreed-upon rules.”
Miller didn’t hold back, exposing the pattern of evasiveness from the Harris campaign:
“They won’t allow Harris to do interviews, they won’t allow her to do press conferences, and now they want to give her a cheat-sheet for the debate. My guess is that they’re looking for a way to get out of any debate with President Trump.”
After President Biden dropped out of the race, the Harris campaign insisted on moving forward with the previously agreed ABC presidential debate.
But now, weeks after Trump agreed to the rules, the Harris camp is trying to change them to have live microphones throughout the event.
Even though Trump is open to the idea, he and his team have called out Harris’ sudden demands.
“The deal was that we keep the same rules, now all of a sudden they want to make a change in the rules,” Trump said Monday, making it clear that the Harris campaign’s antics are nothing but a desperate attempt to shift the narrative.
