With Biden in such dire straits, the Left is in trouble. Many have looked to California Governor Gavin Newsom.
And now Newsom just sank Biden’s campaign with two simple words.
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) stated his ardent support for President Joe Biden originated from frustration with others’ failure to recognize his accomplishments.
Newsom said in an interview with Brian Tyler Cohen published on Sunday that he and others must “show up” for Biden and promote his accomplishments as the president seeks a second term in office.
“A little frustration? I mean, I’m gonna get in trouble. But, you know, we have to show up for this guy. He’s shown up for us the last three years, the American people,” Newsom said.
He went on to praise the bipartisan infrastructure bill, the CHIPS and Science Act, and other groups’ low unemployment rates.
Newsom also stated that, while some do “an amazing job” promoting Biden’s record, more individuals should be advocating the Biden program.
“A lot of people do an amazing job. Like they’re out there for this guy for our for Team Biden, but I think we need to get more of us. We need reinforcement with pride. We’re not pulling teeth here. We’ve got the record. I mean, [Republicans] don’t. They have rhetoric,” Newsom said.
“They say, well, we’re going to lower interest rates. Really? How are you going to do that? We’re going to — inflation is out of control, but what are you going to do about it? They got nothing. They have literally nothing.”
Newsom then noted how certain Republican presidential contenders are restarting their efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare, and he emphasized the importance of Democrats in power, including the president.
“Democrats in legislatures matter, Democratic governors matter, Democratic local leaders matter, and our president matters,” Newsom said in a statement.
“And I’ll tell you, if we can’t have the back of the guy who’s done more in three years than any president in my lifetime, Democrats, I don’t know what we deserve.”
Newsom has been a vocal supporter of Biden, even as speculations circulate that he may run for president in the future.
The governor of California has rejected running for president in 2024 and has endorsed Biden.
And it is probably in his best interest.
In a Fox News survey conducted this November, Biden received 46% to Trump’s 50% among registered voters in a head-to-head matchup, a statistically insignificant four-point margin between the two candidates.
In a hypothetical matchup between Newsom and Trump, the California Governor receives 45% support with Trump at 49%, also a 4 point margin.
These figures suggest that both Biden and Newsom are attracting the base party vote and not much else.
In other words, they are receiving support from voters who will always choose the Democratic Party candidate, no matter which name is on the ticket.
