Huge endorsement from Donald Trump could turn the tide in a major election

Trump’s word holds a lot of weight in the Republican Party. And now he’s starting to get behind some candidates.

Because a huge endorsement from Donald Trump could turn the tide in a major election.

Trump Delivers Strong Endorsement for Steve Hilton in California Governor Race

President Donald Trump has thrown his influential support behind Steve Hilton, the former Fox News host and British government aide, in the contest to replace termed-out Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The endorsement came late Sunday night via Truth Social, highlighting Hilton’s potential to reverse California’s challenges.

Detailed Praise and Sharp Criticism of Current Leadership

Trump shared a lengthy message praising the candidate while slamming the state’s direction under Newsom.

He wrote: “I have known and respected Steve Hilton, who is running for Governor of California, for many years. He is a truly fine man, one who has watched as this once-great state has gone to h*ll.”

Trump referred to Newsom as “Newscum” and described his leadership as “horrendous,” adding: “People are fleeing, crime is increasing, and taxes are the highest of any state in the country, maybe the world.”

He concluded with strong backing: “Steve can turn it around before it is too late and, as President, I will help him to do so! With federal help, and a great governor like Steve Hilton, California can be better than ever before! Steve Hilton has my COMPLETE & TOTAL ENDORSEMENT. He will be a GREAT Governor and, importantly, WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

Race Dynamics and Polling Boost for Hilton

Hilton, a vocal critic of Newsom, currently leads a crowded 12-candidate field with about 17% support in recent Emerson College Polling, up 5 points since December.

He edges out Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco among Republicans, while several Democrats—including Eric Swalwell, Katie Porter, and Xavier Becerra—trail behind.

California’s top-two primary system on June 2 advances the leading two candidates to the November general election, regardless of party.

This setup has raised the possibility of a Republican-versus-Republican matchup in the fall for the first time in nearly two decades, as Democrats remain divided and about 21% of voters stay undecided.
