Biden’s Withdrawal from 2024 Race Becoming “Less Likely,” Says Historian Douglas Brinkley
President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race is becoming “less likely” every day, historian Douglas Brinkley shared with MSNBC on Thursday. This statement comes amidst growing calls from multiple Democrats for Biden to end his reelection campaign following a lackluster performance in a June 27 debate with former President Donald Trump hosted by CNN.
Brinkley noted that as time progresses, Biden is “less likely” to abandon his reelection efforts.
“There’s a residual anger from many journalists that Biden doesn’t hold enough press conferences, that he doesn’t make himself more available. That’s been an ongoing narrative,” Brinkley told MSNBC host Chris Jansing.
Highlighting the significance of Biden’s media interactions, Brinkley pointed to Biden’s solo press conference after the NATO summit on Thursday evening, referred to by the White House as a “big boy press conference,” as a crucial test for the 81-year-old president.
“It’s like a station he’s got to go through tonight and get a passing grade and then, of course, with Lester Holt in Austin on Monday,” Brinkley said.
Joe Biden Intentionally Kicking The Can Down The Road?
Brinkley emphasized that Biden’s continued presence in the campaign is reducing the likelihood of his withdrawal, especially with the Republican convention set to begin in Milwaukee. “And meanwhile, Biden is eating up clock. The Republican convention is kicking in in Milwaukee, and every day that this gets kicked further down, it’s less likely of Biden pulling out,” he added.

The Democratic National Committee has planned to nominate Biden through a virtual roll call, ensuring he meets an August 7 deadline to qualify for the general election ballot in Ohio, as reported by CNN.
Reflecting on the broader implications, Brinkley noted, “I will just end by saying Kamala Harris is part of any scenario here… he is in his 80s and you have to imagine if Biden and Harris win, that she… the public wants to have confidence in her ability to lead and she’s doing really well on the campaign trail right now.”
Biden’s age and mental fitness have been recurring issues throughout his campaign, even before the June 27 debate. Instances where Biden claimed to have spoken with deceased individuals, such as former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl and former French President Francois Mitterrand, have raised concerns. Additionally, in September 2022, Biden mistakenly asked for Republican Rep. Jackie Walorski of Indiana at a conference on hunger, weeks after she had tragically died in a motor vehicle accident in Indiana.
All Eyes On The Democrat National Convention
It’s unsure if there’s anything the delegates at the Democrat National Convention could even do even if they wanted to pick someone else other than Joe Biden to make as an alternative nominee for the Democrat Party to run for president.
That’s why there’s immense feverish panic on the side of the Democrats who don’t want Joe Biden to run against Donald Trump to get him to step aside before the time for the DNC arrives and it’s simply too late.
Some have suggested that it’s possible an open convention or a speedy open primary would be legal and wouldn’t violate any obligation delegates have to vote for the candidate their constituents selected.
Though, so-called “progressive” Democrats are arguing that there was no fair primary process. That is true, to be fair. The Democrat primary process was clearly in favor of Joe Biden from the beginning. That’s why they rejected all calls for debates to be had between Joe Biden and alternatives like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. who was running for the Democrat nomination at the time.
Isn’t it entirely ironic that the Democrats, who have been lecturing Americans about the future of “democracy” in America being at risk, are now the enemies of democracy by bypassing a fair primary system for a nearly 82-years-old incumbent who is clearly not up to the task and is himself a threat to democracy with the nuclear codes in his grasp?
Yeah, there’s a reason more and more Americans are waking up to the horrors of the Democrat Party and are coming out in droves to support Donald Trump instead. How the tables have turned.
