The Left is running out of options. Now they’re going for broke.
Because a major Democrat called on Trump to be locked up right before the election.
Former MSNBC anchor Mehdi Hasan unleashed a tirade against President Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland on Saturday, railing against their failure to put former President Trump on trial before the 2024 presidential election.
Hasan’s frustration is clear: he wanted Trump sidelined before the voters had a chance to weigh in.
On X, Hasan didn’t hold back, saying he’ll never forgive Biden and Garland for letting Trump head into Election Day without facing trial for his supposed actions around January 6.
Hasan fumed, “No matter who wins or loses on Tuesday, I will never not stop being mad at Joe Biden and Merrick Garland for allowing Trump to face the electorate this week without having seen the inside of a courtroom for his crimes on, and ahead of, January 6th.”
Calling out what he labeled “astonishing incompetence, caution, cowardice,” Hasan didn’t buy into the Democrats’ defense that delaying Trump’s trial was to preserve faith in an impartial Department of Justice.
Instead, he noted, “even after giving Trump a pass, the Dems and the Biden DOJ are still accused of carrying out a ‘witchhunt’ against Trump and of ‘weaponizing’ the justice system against him. So what was gained?”
After months of anticipation over Trump’s trial date in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s election-related case, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan finally set the trial schedule in September — conveniently pushing the start beyond the 2024 election.
This timeline left Trump free to rally his supporters while the Democrats clung to hopes of using legal battles to sway voters.
The case, which centers on Trump’s alleged attempts to challenge the 2020 election results, is a key part of the Left’s campaign against Trump.
Democrats hoped a trial sooner than later would tarnish Trump politically, aiming to clear the way for Kamala Harris in what they see as a tight race.
Indicted in August 2023, Trump faced four federal charges in Smith’s investigation, including conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government.
Trump dismissed the charges as a baseless “Witch Hunt” and pleaded not guilty, defending his record while Democrats painted the indictment as evidence of a supposed “criminal plot” to undermine democracy.
But after a recent Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity, Smith had to rework the case, narrowly tailoring the charges.
The new indictment still accuses Trump of pressuring then-Vice President Mike Pence, allegedly pushing for fake electors to swing the election his way.
Nonetheless, Trump again pleaded not guilty, firmly denying all charges.
On top of this case, Trump is also defending himself against additional federal charges related to classified documents and charges in Georgia, as well as a conviction in New York on business records.
Yet, Trump remains resolute, calling the cases part of a broader weaponization of the Justice Department — something GOP members of Congress have pledged to investigate.
