And a daring Democrat plot to destroy the Supreme Court just got exposed.

Senate Democrats have launched what some are calling a “calculated effort” to erode public confidence in the Supreme Court, CBS News reporter Jan Crawford asserted during a Sunday appearance on Face the Nation.

The discussion arose after CBS correspondent Major Garrett highlighted the Supreme Court’s record-low approval ratings.

According to Crawford, the decline in public trust stems from events that started well before 2024, with roots in one of the Court’s most controversial rulings.

“It really started and took off in the wake of the Dobbs decision, the court’s ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade,” Crawford explained.

“The outrage was so extreme that you saw, I think, a quite calculated effort to undermine legitimacy of the Supreme Court by Democrats, Senate Democrats.”

She pointed to various tactics employed by Democrats, including high-profile Senate hearings and media coverage that emphasized alleged scandals.

“For example, hearings, stories about scandals, some of which were pretty overblown, to say the least. So that has an impact on public opinion,” Crawford said.

The CBS reporter argued that this narrative of corruption has had lasting effects on how the public perceives the Court, even though the claims lack substantial evidence.

“The public starts to believe this court is corrupt, that this is on the take. None of which is true,” she said.

Crawford emphasized that the Court remains focused on its interpretation of the law, despite its conservative leanings.

“This is still a court — you may disagree with their decisions — is a very conservative court. It is not a corrupt court. These are nine justices who have very different views on how to interpret the Constitution, who are kind of in this titanic struggle over law, not politics,” she continued.

As an example of the misinformation she believes is fueling skepticism, Crawford cited the Court’s ruling earlier this summer on presidential immunity. In a 6-3 decision, the Court determined that ex-presidents, including President-elect Donald Trump, have substantial immunity from prosecution regarding official acts.

Crawford accused Democratic critics of mischaracterizing the case, which she noted also protects President Biden from prosecution for official actions.

“When we look at public opinion polls, sure, the court has taken a hit, but that’s true over the years. The court often takes a hit. So do other institutions,” Crawford said, adding that the Supreme Court still commands more respect than many other branches of government.

“In the court’s opinion, the public opinion remains much higher than our other institutions, including the White House, Congress, and, by far, the news media.”

Recent polling underscores the Supreme Court’s challenges. A Fox News survey conducted in the days following the presidential immunity decision found the Court’s approval rating at a record low of 38%, with 60% of respondents expressing disapproval.

While the numbers may reflect growing dissatisfaction, Crawford’s analysis suggests that this discontent has been stoked by strategic efforts to delegitimize the judiciary in the wake of divisive rulings like Dobbs.
