Now a federal judge went off the rails with this anti-Trump ruling.
Court Halts Trump’s Parole Revocation Plan
A federal judge has put a stop to the Trump administration’s attempt to strip legal status and work permits from over 530,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela who entered the U.S. under a Biden-era initiative.
The ruling, issued Monday by Judge Indira Talwani, an Obama appointee, blocks the revocation of protections for these migrants who arrived via the CHNV mass humanitarian parole program.
In her decision, Talwani emphasized the need for personalized evaluations, stating:
“The Termination of Parole Processes for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans, 90 Fed. Reg. 13611 (Mar. 25, 2025), is hereby STAYED pending further court order insofar as it revokes, without case-by-case review, the previously granted parole and work authorization issued to noncitizens paroled into the United States pursuant to parole programs for noncitizens from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela (the ‘CHNV parole programs’) prior to the noncitizen’s originally stated parole end date.”
The Controversial CHNV Program’s Origins
Launched in 2022 under President Joe Biden, the CHNV program initially targeted Venezuelans before expanding to include Cubans, Haitians, and Nicaraguans in 2023.
Using executive parole authority, it allowed migrants with U.S. sponsors to fly directly into the country, granting them two years of temporary parole status.
The Biden administration defended the program as a way to curb illegal border crossings and enhance vetting amid a surge in migration.
However, the program faced setbacks, including a temporary suspension due to widespread fraud.
High-profile crimes by some recipients, including multiple child r*pe cases, further fueled criticism. Despite these issues, the program facilitated the entry of over half a million migrants and their families before Trump’s administration moved to dismantle it.
Tensions Over Executive Authority
In March, the Trump administration ordered the 532,000 CHNV participants to leave the U.S. by April 24, when their parole and work permits were set to expire, following a formal notice on March 25.
The administration argued it was exercising the same executive authority Biden used to create the program. However, Talwani’s ruling has sparked backlash from Trump officials, who see it as an overreach.
“It is pure lawless tyranny,” a Trump administration official told Fox News, expressing frustration that the judge’s decision limits the president’s ability to reverse Biden’s policy.
The Department of Homeland Security echoed this sentiment, arguing Talwani’s order undermines Trump’s authority to manage immigration policy. Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House for comment as the legal battle continues to unfold.
