Attorney General Merrick Garland makes eyebrow-raising statement about Trump on CNN

The war on Donald Trump is far from over. The Left is hitting him with everything they have.

And now Merrick Garland’s statement about Trump on CNN is raising everyone’s eyebrows.

As the 2024 presidential election draws near, Attorney General Merrick Garland stated in a Friday appearance on CNN that the trial of former President Donald Trump in the case brought against him by special counsel Jack Smith should be expedited.

In his repeated efforts to keep the trial date of March 4th, Smith has sought to expedite the case’s pace. In an interview with CNN judicial correspondent Evan Perez on CNN This Morning, Garland stated that he agrees with Smith over the expediting of the trial.

“The prosecutions … were brought last year. The special prosecutor has said from the beginning that he thinks public interest requires a speedy trial, which I agree with,” Garland stated to Perez. “The matter is now in the hands of a trial judge to determine when the trials will take place.”

Perez asked Garland whether there was a date when the trials would end “too late,” referencing DOJ policy for the avoidance of lawsuits around elections.

“The cases were brought last year. The prosecutor has urged speedy trials, with which I agree. And it’s now in the hands of the judicial system, not in our hands,” Garland continued.

“Special prosecutors followed the facts and the law,” Garland said in response to a query on the timeliness of the case. “They brought cases when they thought they were ready.”

Pending an appeal of her decision not to dismiss the lawsuit based on presidential immunity, District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan halted legal proceedings in Trump’s 2020 election case on December 13.

But in a recent 15-page document, Trump’s attorneys pointed out that on December 17th, prosecutors submitted 4,000 pages of “additional discovery” and on December 18th, an “exhibit list” was filed. “The prosecutors’ desperate effort to harass President Trump and prevent his likely victory in the 2024 Presidential Election is unstated, but obvious,” Trump’s attorneys argued.

Prosecutors replied in a statement that they presented the records “to help ensure that trial proceeds promptly if and when the mandate returns.”

In December, CNN’s senior legal analyst Elie Honig noted that Trump’s immunity request might delay Smith’s Jan. 6 case.

“I think this will end up in the Supreme Court. It’s a constitutional issue. It’s an issue that we don’t really have precedent on, and that we need some guidance on,” Honig declared. “I think they will take it up before the election happens. I’m not sure they’ll expedite it anymore, they may want to let it go through the Court of Appeals.”

“March 4 is in big trouble,” Honig noted. “And keep in mind, it’s not just March 4. Jury selection starts Feb. 9, so even if the Supreme Court says, ‘We’re gonna take this, and we’re gonna expedite it to the highest degree,’ I don’t think they get it done by Feb. 9.”

It is abundantly clear to anyone with a few brain cells to spare that the radical Left is trying to get something to stick before Donald Trump likely faces off against Joe Biden in the general election season.

Should Donald Trump win another term come time for Americans to vote at the ballot box this November, the Democrats will have no recourse remaining. It’ll be over. Their goose will be cooked.

And all their efforts to skirt the law to try and prevent Donald Trump from getting back into the White House will come back to haunt them.
