Blue state looks to ban these favorite American pastimes

The radical Left hates what makes America great. They want to change the identity of the country with every chance they get.

And this blue state is looking to ban these favorite American pastimes.

Folks in Oregon are facing a direct assault on their freedoms, as a group of activists ramp up a petition drive to outlaw hunting and fishing. This isn’t just some fringe idea—it’s a real push to get it on the November ballot, and if it passes, it could reshape how everyday Americans interact with the land and wildlife.

The so-called People for the Elimination of Animal Cruelty Exemptions (PEACE) Act is at the heart of this controversy. According to reports from KOIN, this measure aims to overhaul Oregon’s animal cruelty statutes, which right now safeguard household pets like dogs and cats.

But these radicals aren’t stopping there. The Act “would change the current Oregon animal cruelty laws, which currently protect pets such as dogs and cats, and would expand coverage to wild animals, livestock and animals used in research.” That’s a massive overreach, pulling in everything from deer in the woods to cows on the farm.

Leading the charge is David Michelson, who’s not shy about his agenda. He openly admits the uphill battle but presses on anyway.

“We really want to make Oregon the first state to vote on something like this. We are aware that it’s unlikely 50% of Oregonians are ready right now to move away from k*lling animals. But we want to get that conversation out there. So that we can hopefully move in that direction,” Michelson said.

This isn’t a new stunt—these ideas have been floating around for years, but now they’re gaining steam. Hunters and outdoorsmen are sounding the alarm, warning that this could end traditions passed down through generations.

Amy Patrick from the Oregon Hunters Association laid it out plain and simple, according to KPTV. She called it a recycled threat that’s been lurking for half a decade.

“This is something that has been around for the last five years…this is an initiative that is trying to basically outlaw the ability to k*ll or injure an animal for any reason other than self-defense. They want to make Oregon a sanctuary state,” Patrick explained.

She didn’t beat around the bush when speaking about the fallout. “It would criminalize hunting, fishing, trapping, wildlife management practices, education and teaching with animals, all the way down to your ability to trap pests and vermin.”

Imagine that: You spot a rat in your barn, and suddenly you’re a criminal for dealing with it. This isn’t about compassion—it’s about control, stripping away the rights of hardworking folks who rely on these activities for food, sport, and even pest management.

Oregon’s rural communities would take the biggest hit. Families who hunt to put venison on the table or fish for fresh trout could face fines or worse, all because urban elites decide what’s “cruel.”

And let’s not forget the economic punch. Hunting and fishing bring in millions to the state through licenses, gear sales, and tourism. Banning them? That’s a recipe for job losses in guides, outfitters, and small-town stores.

Wildlife management would grind to a halt too. Without controlled hunting, animal populations could explode, leading to more car accidents, crop damage, and disease spread. Who’s going to handle that mess if professionals can’t step in?

These activists talk a big game about starting a “conversation,” but it’s clear they’re aiming to impose their views on everyone else.

Real Oregonians—farmers, hunters, and families—need to stand up now. This petition isn’t just about animals; it’s a frontline battle for American traditions against out-of-touch radicals who want to turn the Beaver State into a no-go zone for self-reliance.
