The mainstream media is on a crusade to stop Donald Trump. But not everyone is going along with it.
Now a CNN panel went crazy after one person stood up for Donald Trump.
Criminal defense attorney Arthur Aidala pushed back against claims that President Donald Trump should face criminal charges for the January 6, 2021 Capitol protest, stating there was “no evidence” Trump conspired to incite the riot.
Aidala’s remarks came during an appearance on CNN NewsNight with host Abby Phillip on Thursday night, where he dismantled the Left’s ongoing attempts to criminalize Trump’s actions.
Phillip pressed Aidala, suggesting Trump should have faced consequences for encouraging his supporters to protest the 2020 election results.
Aidala, however, rejected the narrative, saying Trump’s behavior did not meet the legal standard for conspiracy.
“The president of the United States, him personally? No. Why? Because he doesn’t meet the threshold for acting in concert or conspiracy,” Aidala explained.
“There was no evidence that there was a real conspiracy under the letter of the law.”
Despite Phillip’s attempts to frame Trump as the mastermind behind the protest, Aidala stood firm, asserting there was no legal basis for federal criminal charges.
Republican strategist Melik Abdul also fired back, reminding Phillip that Trump had already faced accountability through impeachment.
“Donald Trump was held responsible because Donald Trump was impeached,” Abdul said.
“Now, if there was a criminal case to be made, the Biden Administration obviously could have filed charges against Donald Trump. It was being investigated.”
Aidala went even further, highlighting how the Biden administration and Democratic officials have waged an unprecedented legal assault on Trump since 2020.
“You have to say the DOJ was weaponized against Donald Trump, and you could say the Manhattan DA’s office was and the New York State attorney general was. I mean, there’s no doubt about it,” he said.
Aidala, who specializes in criminal law, called Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against Trump the first of its kind in U.S. history — a clear indication of political targeting.
“I’m not talking about January 6th. I’m talking about Donald Trump himself, and I think he’s got PTSD,” Aidala continued.
“He almost went to jail federally. He almost went to jail statewide. They called his three adult children to the stand and the finance case. They took his companies and said, you can’t run your companies in the state of New York. So in terms of Donald Trump, the whole system was definitely weaponized against him.”
The relentless attacks on Trump have played out across multiple fronts. New York Judge Juan Merchan officially rendered Trump’s conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records on January 10, although the judge’s “unconditional discharge” amounted to nothing more than a symbolic slap on the wrist.
Democrats also tried — and failed — to block Trump from appearing on the ballot. The Colorado Supreme Court disqualified Trump under the 14th Amendment’s “insurrection” clause in December 2023, only to be overruled by a unanimous 9-0 decision from the U.S. Supreme Court.
Similarly, Maine’s far-Left Secretary of State Shenna Bellows tried to remove Trump from the ballot, citing the January 6 protest as grounds for disqualification — a move that also collapsed under legal scrutiny.
Adding to the list of politically motivated actions, special counsel Jack Smith secured a superseding indictment against Trump in August 2024 — two months after the Supreme Court sided with Trump on his immunity claims in another case stemming from Smith’s ongoing witch hunt over Trump’s challenge to the 2020 election results.
Despite years of non-stop legal warfare, the Left’s desperate attempts to take down Donald Trump continue to fail. As Aidala made clear, there’s no legal basis for the charges — only a weaponized justice system targeting the president for daring to put America First.
