Donald Trump’s legal battles are still raging on. But it seems he’s got an ace up his sleeve.
That’s because Donald Trump sent Clarence Thomas a letter that no one saw coming.
Former President Donald Trump is no stranger to legal battles.
Even before he became the 45th President of the United States, he faced many legal battles for many years in his personal capitalistic ventures before he ever became interested in running for any office.
He knows that you win some and you lose some and that’s just the way the cookie crumbles.
But his latest battles in the courtroom aren’t your everyday cases that anyone has ever seen before.
His home in Mar-a-Lago was seemingly unconstitutionally raided by the FBI and the DOJ for allegedly illegally holding classified documents at the residence.
Donald Trump and his legal team claim that these were previously declassified files and that the FBI had no right to raid his home that night.
This led to Trump filing for a special master to independently review the documents that were in question, which proved to be a controversial among legal experts.
Trump’s request was eventually approved and even his personal choice to be the individual to review the documents, Raymond J. Dearie, was approved to be the special master.
But the controversy over the special master isn’t quite over, apparently.
The US appeals court for the 11th circuit ruled for 100 documents to be prohibited from the review of the special master. The Trump team says that the appellate court didn’t have the jurisdiction to do so.
So in response, the Trump legal team went straight to the Supreme Court.
They’ve requested of the Supreme Court to vacate the appellate court’s decision and have the 100 documents reinserted into the review of the special master, Raymond J. Dearie.
The New York Times reports:
Former President Donald J. Trump asked the Supreme Court on Tuesday to intervene in the litigation over sensitive documents that the F.B.I. seized from his Florida estate, saying that an appeals court had lacked jurisdiction to remove them from a special master’s review.
But Mr. Trump’s lawyers did not ask the Supreme Court to overturn the most important part of the appeals court’s intervention: its decision to free the Justice Department to continue using documents with classification markings in its criminal investigation of Mr. Trump’s handling of government records.
Trump’s opponents have said this is just a hail mary throw that has virtually no shot of happening.
But that would be ignorant of the context of the Supreme Court.
The three Justices that Trump nominated and saw confirmed – Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett – all subscribe to a fairly conservative judicial worldview, though to varying degrees.
On top of that, Justice Clarence Thomas has been a bastion for conservative jurisprudence since he was confirmed to the bench in the 1990s.
It’s not hard seeing those four agreeing to Trump’s request. Most of the other five judges are wildcards that could go either way.
No one knows how this legal battle will end, but the Fake News Media sure likes to act like they know.
When in reality, they just want to see Trump behind bars even if it’s for no crime at all.
