The Soros family has been a specter haunting politics for decades. But their empire may be crashing down.
Because George Soros is in the hot seat after the DOJ started drafting charges.
DOJ Targets Soros’ Open Society Foundations for Investigation
A senior Justice Department official has ordered U.S. attorney’s offices across multiple states to prepare investigations into the Open Society Foundations (OSF), the flagship philanthropy of billionaire George Soros, according to reports Friday from The New York Times and ABC News.
The directive, issued by Aakash Singh from Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche’s office, signals a bold move to examine the activities of a group long tied to progressive causes.
With allegations ranging from arson to material support for terrorism, this probe raises serious questions about the influence of Soros’ vast wealth in American politics and society, a concern conservatives have voiced for years.
Broad Scope of Potential Charges
The Justice Department’s order, sent to at least seven U.S. attorney’s offices—including those in California, New York, Illinois, Michigan, and Maryland—outlines a range of potential charges, including material support for terrorism, arson, wire fraud, and racketeering, per ABC News.
A DOJ spokesperson defended the move, stating, “This DOJ, along with our hard-working and dedicated U.S. Attorneys, will always prioritize public safety and investigate organizations that conspire to commit acts of violence or other federal violations of law.”
The directive reflects a growing conservative push to hold accountable groups accused of destabilizing activities, particularly those funded by Soros, whose OSF has poured millions into causes like mass immigration advocacy, amnesty for illegal immigrants, and efforts to decriminalize prostitution, as chronicled by Breitbart News. These initiatives, critics argue, often undermine law enforcement and national sovereignty.
OSF Denies Allegations, Claims Political Persecution
The Open Society Foundations, founded by Soros in 1993 and now overseen in part by his son Alexander, swiftly condemned the DOJ’s actions as a politically driven assault on free speech.
“The Open Society Foundations unequivocally condemn terrorism and do not fund terrorism. Our activities are peaceful and lawful, and our grantees are expected to abide by human rights principles and comply with the law,” an OSF spokesperson told ABC News.
They framed the investigations as “politically motivated attacks on civil society, meant to silence speech the administration disagrees with and undermine the First Amendment right to free speech.”
Yet, conservatives see this as a necessary reckoning for an organization with a history of bankrolling groups that clash with federal agencies, including those allegedly aiding illegal immigrants in evading deportation. The DOJ’s move, from this perspective, is less about stifling dissent and more about ensuring accountability for actions that may cross legal lines.
A Long-Standing Conservative Concern
Soros’ influence has been a lightning rod for conservative criticism, with his foundations linked to progressive agendas that many argue destabilize American values. From funding groups tied to the Biden White House to supporting initiatives that challenge immigration enforcement, OSF’s reach is undeniable.
The DOJ’s directive marks a pivotal moment, signaling that no entity is above scrutiny when public safety is at stake.
As the investigations unfold, they will likely fuel debate over the balance between free expression and the consequences of funding divisive causes—a debate conservatives believe is long overdue.
