The Democrats are in disarray. After the debate, where do they go from here?
And now Kamala Harris has some news for Joe Biden that left him completely blindsided.
Vice President Kamala Harris struggled to defend President Joe Biden following Thursday night’s harshly criticized debate performance against former President Donald Trump.
On CNN, host Anderson Cooper asked Harris if she felt Biden should step down.
“Yes, there was a slow start, but it was a strong finish,” she said.
“And what became very clear through the course of the night is that Joe Biden is fighting on behalf of the American people on substance, on policy, on performance.”
Cooper immediately interrupted her and said: “I’m sorry on substance and policy and performance tonight. I mean, the president’s performance tonight clearly was disappointing for his supporters. CNN is reporting Democratic lawmakers watching the debate were worried, worried about the president’s performance. One said it was a disaster. Another called it a train wreck. Those are Democrats.”
Harris refused to respond to Cooper again after the journalist underlined Biden’s failure to perform on the debate stage.
“I got the point that you’re making about a one-and-a-half-hour debate tonight,” she said.
“I’m talking about three and a half years of performance in work that has been historic.”
When Cooper pressed her further on the discussion, she retaliated: “I’m not going to spend all night with you talking about the last 90 minutes when I’ve been watching the last three and a half years of performance.”
She admitted that Biden did not start well, which she said was “obvious to everyone”.
When questioned if that is how Biden is every day, Harris refused to respond, instead claiming that “Joe Biden can make it happen.”
Watch below:
A flash poll conducted by CNN following Thursday night’s presidential debate revealed former President Trump soundly defeating President Biden.
The CNN poll aired showed that 67% of debate watchers felt that Trump won the debate, while only 33% believed Biden came out on top.
In contrast, CNN’s poll after the final 2020 presidential debate indicated that 53% of viewers felt Biden won, compared to 39% who thought Trump did.
The majority of users on social media seemed to agree with the latest CNN poll, including liberal pundits.
“This debate was a total and complete disaster for Biden,” former CNN commentator Chris Cillizza wrote on X.
“He looked old. His answers trailed off repeatedly. He was hard to understand. He would stop in mid-sentence and move on to something else. I NEVER thought he would be this bad. Stunning. Truly.”
