The Left pretends to be accepting. But they are anything but that.
Now a leading Democrat’s racist tirade was just caught on camera.
Iowa Democratic state Sen. Sarah Trone Garriott, an ordained Lutheran minister running for Congress in the state’s 3rd District, sparked controversy by lambasting the makeup of Iowa’s leadership as overly dominated by white, Christian men.
Her remarks, captured in a YouTube interview, underscore a push for diversity that critics say reeks of hypocrisy and fuels unnecessary division, especially coming from someone who fits much of the profile she decries.
Critique of Iowa’s “Undiverse” Leadership
In a candid discussion with Sebastian Onofre, Garriott explained her congressional bid as stemming from a desire to shake up the status quo. She said, “I just wanted different kinds of people to be in leadership,” crediting female friends who paved the way by running for office.
Describing Iowa’s elected officials as “not a very diverse group,” she pointed out they are “mostly white, mostly Christian, mostly older men,” which she argued creates “tremendous opportunities to get different types of people who represent our community into leadership positions.”
This narrative aligns with her vocal support for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, where she opposed a state Senate bill banning DEI offices and programs in government and public colleges, warning it would “hurt our state” and “actually criminalizes those efforts to build our workforce.”
Broader Attacks on “White Patriarchy” and Christian Nationalism
Garriott’s comments extend beyond leadership demographics into sharp critiques of cultural and religious influences.
In a speech to the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church, she denounced “white patriarchy” as embodying “masculine power, violence and dominance,” and tied it to the surge in Christian nationalism, which she traced back to evangelist Billy Graham.
Urging action, she encouraged building relationships with neighbors and ensuring they “have a voice in their government” to combat these forces. She further claimed the LGBT and transgender movement is “very threatening to the idea of the white, male, powerful figure because it muddies the waters and makes things ambiguous and confusing.” Such rhetoric highlights her alignment with progressive agendas that often prioritize identity politics over unity.
Republican Backlash and Hypocrisy Concerns
Republicans swiftly pounced on Garriott’s statements, with an RNC Research tweet spotlighting: “IA-03 Democrat Candidate Sarah Trone Garriott – a Christian minister – complains that Iowan Representatives are ‘mostly Christian.’”
RNC spokesman Zach Kraft blasted her as a “woke warrior,” adding: “From bashing white men to leading the fight to waste tax dollars on DEI in the Iowa Senate, Sarah Trone Garriott has built a career on being a woke warrior. Just don’t ask her, a white, Christian minister, to do as she says and step aside for a more ‘diverse’ candidate. Iowans want nothing to do with this radical leftwing nutjob and will soundly reject her and her insane ideas.”
This response underscores the perceived double standard in Democratic identity-driven campaigns, which risk alienating everyday Iowans by stoking racial and religious tensions rather than focusing on practical issues like the economy or education. Garriott’s silence on requests for comment only amplifies questions about the sincerity of her divisive platform.
