The trigger for this urgent response was the shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10. The founder of Turning Point USA, a powerhouse in the conservative movement, was gunned down in a cowardly act that shook the nation to its core.
In the days following, social media platforms exploded with disgusting posts from users mocking or praising Kirk’s death. These weren’t just random trolls—many came from foreign nationals hiding behind keyboards, spewing venom against American heroes.
Last week, a senior State Department figure stepped up to rally the public in rooting out these threats. Deputy Secretary of State Chris Landau took to X to express his outrage and call for action.
“I have been disgusted to see some on social media praising, rationalizing, or making light of the event, and have directed our consular officials to undertake appropriate action. Please feel free to bring such comments by foreigners to my attention so that the @StateDept can protect the American people,” Deputy Secretary of State Chris Landau said in an X post.
