Donald Trump is working to make life better for U.S. citizens. He’s succeeding at that in more ways than one.
And new projections show that Trump is about to deliver in a big way for Americans.
Under President Donald Trump’s leadership, American families are gearing up for a Merry Christmas with gas prices hitting rock bottom, the lowest national average on Christmas Day since his last full year in office back in 2020. This drop is a direct win from his energy strategies that benefit everyday folks.
GasBuddy’s latest forecast spells out the good news: come Christmas Day, the average price for a gallon of gas across the nation will clock in at just $2.79.
That’s a solid dip from last year’s $2.95 under the Biden administration, which had to tap into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as prices spiraled out of control.
White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers didn’t hold back in highlighting the achievement. “Thanks to President Trump, gas prices have hit a five-year low and Christmas Day gas prices are projected to fall to the lowest level since 2020,” she said to Breitbart News.
She went on to emphasize the administration’s focus: “Lowering energy prices for American families and businesses will continue to be a top priority for President Trump in the new year.”
The savings aren’t just pocket change. According to GasBuddy, hardworking Americans stand to pocket over half a billion dollars more during Christmas week alone compared to what they shelled out last year. That’s real money going back into family budgets.
Flash back to the Biden era, and the picture gets grim. On Christmas Day 2020, with Trump at the helm, drivers enjoyed an average of $2.26 per gallon nationwide.
But just ten months into Biden’s term, by December 25, 2021, that price had skyrocketed a full dollar to $3.26 per gallon, per GasBuddy.
The pain didn’t stop there. In 2022 and 2023, under Biden’s watch, Christmas Day averages stayed stubbornly above the $3 mark, hitting $3.05 and $3.10 per gallon respectively. Families felt the squeeze every time they filled up.
Biden’s policies pushed things to extremes, delivering the highest gas prices ever recorded in U.S. history amid crushing inflation that echoed the failures of the Carter days. On June 14, 2022, regular unleaded averaged a staggering $5.016 per gallon, according to AAA.
Now, with Trump back in charge, the tide has turned. Experts point to smart moves in energy production that’s ramping up supply and easing the burden on consumers.
Patrick de Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, broke it down in a recent statement. He credited the turnaround to key factors like increased output and the end of seasonal disruptions.
“Refinery maintenance has wrapped up, supplies are rising, and winter demand is much lower than in summer — all of which help keep a lid on prices. Provided there are no surprises, holiday travelers should see pump prices that come in a bit lower than last Christmas,” de Haan said.
This isn’t just a one-off holiday gift. De Haan teased more positive developments ahead, noting early indicators for sustained relief.
“We’re also seeing encouraging early trends as we prepare to release our 2026 Fuel Outlook in January, with signs that lower prices could continue into next year,” he stated.
Trump’s approach champions American energy independence, drilling down on domestic resources to shield families from global market whims and foreign dependencies that plagued the previous administration.
As millions hit the roads to visit loved ones this season, these lower prices mean less stress at the pump and more freedom to celebrate without breaking the bank.
Looking forward, Trump’s commitment to slashing energy costs promises to fuel economic growth, empower small businesses, and keep America strong against the headwinds of past liberal experiments that drove prices through the roof.
