In one notable instance, Jonathan Su, the Deputy White House Counsel at the time, participated in a phone call with NARA officials to discuss missing boxes of documents that Trump was alleged to have improperly retained after leaving office. The discussions delayed NARA’s official referral to the Department of Justice (DOJ), with the White House filing a “special access request” the following year, further complicating the timeline.
America First Legal, which has been critical of the Biden administration’s actions, quickly reacted to the emails. They pointed out that the new information reveals that the prosecution against Trump was “a sham” and involved the Biden White House from the outset, long before NARA’s official referral to the DOJ. Donald Trump accused the “corrupt Biden administration” of trying to derail his third run for President.
Today, the idea that Joe Biden was in some way involved in the development of these cases is no longer a “conspiracy.” If anything, most legal experts and political commentators would agree that it seems likely that Joe Biden’s White House was more involved than they were willing to let on at the time.
