Joe Biden’s time as president has been tumultuous. Almost nothing has gone right.
And President Biden was just delivered awful news that has Democrats in panic mode.
Next month, President Joe Biden is planning on giving a commencement address to the students at Morehouse College in Georgia.
The college is a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) and has a long history. Martin Luther King Jr., the famous Civil Rights leader, attended the school back in the 1940s.
But now, some members of Morehouse College’s faculty are becoming concerned about Biden as the commencement speaker this year.
The college’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, Kendrick Brown, sent an email to staff members which said that he “received an inquiry from concerned faculty about rumors they were hearing about President Biden’s selection as the 2024 Commencement speaker,” NBC News reports.
Brown also wrote that an online meeting was scheduled “to extend an opportunity for faculty with different perspectives on the selection of our Commencement speaker to ask questions and make comments.”
The provost also declared that students “will engage” with Morehouse College President David Thomas on the situation regarding Biden as the guest speaker.
“Please know going into this conversation that the College does not plan to rescind its accepted invitation to President Biden,” Brown concluded, according to CNN.
President Biden’s speech will occur on May 19 at the school’s Century Campus.
The address at the HBCU comes at a time when Biden’s poll numbers among young, black individuals is not up to par compared to where they were back in 2020.
In fact, some of these black voters are starting to switch over to supporting Donald Trump this election season.
As for the students at Morehouse College, some were not so thrilled with the president being the one to give the commencement speech.
WXIA-TV, a local Atlanta news station, spoke with a student in particular who said he doesn’t support Joe Biden coming to speak at his school.
He said that Biden and his administration’s support of Israel is one of the reasons why he can’t offer his support.
“At end of the day, this is kind of like something that’s on his political agenda to kind of maybe get more young, black voters,” the student also noted.
You can watch the student’s full comments, as well as other students’ thoughts, in the video below:
Biden’s declining numbers among black voters could very well cost him the election this year.
And it’s a bad sign for Joe Biden’s performance among this crucial voting bloc if there’s already unrest at an HBCU over his presence during their upcoming commencement.
