With Tucker Carlson gone, Fox News needs to hold on to their talent for dear life. But they could’ve never seen this coming about Sean Hannity.
Because this shocking and sad Sean Hannity news has rocked the network to its core.
Fox News has seen a dramatic drop in viewership since the dismissal of conservative commentator Tucker Carlson.
Despite not directly replacing Carlson as Fox News’ conservative firebrand, Sean Hannity has suffered a hit since Carlson’s dismissal.
According to TV Newser, Rachel Maddow of MSNBC attracted over 2.4 million people for the week of July 10 at 9 p.m., while Hannity of Fox News only attracted 1.95 million.
In June, the Fox News anchor attracted nearly 2 million views; thus far in July, that number has dropped to an average of 1.7 million.
On average, three million people have watched Hannity’s prime-time show each night since March of 2022.
Despite the devastating blow, Fox News managed to recover and continue broadcasting.
TV Newser reports that during the week of July 10, Fox News averaged over 1.4 million prime-time viewers, despite the holiday’s negative impact on ratings.
According to TV Newser, this was a 21% rise over the previous week.
Fox News has won the overall ratings race for the past 28 weeks in a row. However, the outlet’s performance has worsened across the board.
According to TV Newser, Fox News saw a 32% drop in prime-time viewers, a 58% drop in prime-time demographic viewers, a 21% drop in daytime viewers, and a 41% drop in total day demographic viewers compared to the week of July 11, 2022.
Similarly, MSNBC’s viewership has plummeted in recent years.
The network lost 20% of its prime-time demographic viewers, 11% of its total day viewers, and 19% of its total day demography viewers compared to the week of July 11, 2022, a yearly loss.
As a result of its recent decline in popularity, Fox News has seen its stock price drop.
After the network’s viewership plummeted after Carlson was fired, Steven Cahall, an analyst at Wells Fargo, downgraded the stock and reduced his price objective for the company.
When an analyst determines that a stock is not a good investment, they may downgrade it. The Motley Fool recommends selling a stock after a downgrading on the assumption that other investors would do the same.
After Carlson’s dismissal, Fox News made certain adjustments to its evening programming.
The schedule shifts were announced, with the network placing Laura Ingraham at 7 p.m., Jesse Watters at 8 p.m., Hannity at 9 p.m., Greg Gutfeld at 10 p.m., and Trace Gallagher at 11 p.m.
This all just goes to show you how big of a name Tucker Carlson was for Fox News. They may not have calculated the costs of firing him correctly.
