Donald Trump has been laser-focused on getting re-elected. But now everything has been thrown up in the air.
And the Trump family was just rattled by this shocking death.
Amalija Knavs, former first lady Melania Trump’s mother, died at the age of 78.
“It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija,” Trump said on X Tuesday.
“Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity. She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy.”
Trump did not reveal the cause of death, but Knavs had been ailing for a while.
Former President Donald Trump paid tribute to his mother-in-law on his social media network Truth Social on Tuesday night.
“This is a very sad night for the entire Trump family!!!” he said. “Melania’s great and beautiful mother, Amalija, has just gone to a beautiful place in the sky. She was an incredible woman, and will be missed far beyond words!”
Insiders informed The New York Post last month that Melania Trump skipped her family’s customary Christmas portrait, which included her husband and three of his five children, to be by Knavs’ side in the hospital.
Despite his wife’s illness, Viktor Knavs, Melania Trump’s father, was seen smiling in the photo.
According to her former senior staffer, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, Melania Trump and her Slovenian mother were quite close.
“Melania has always taken care of her parents. I pray for Amalija,” the Melania and Me author told The Post last month.
The Knavses became citizens of the United States in 2018, two years into their son-in-law’s presidency.
The green cards they acquired in the months preceding their oaths aroused concerns about whether they profited from a family reunification procedure that Donald Trump derisively referred to at the time as “chain migration.”
They have mainly avoided the spotlight in recent years, spending the majority of their time at Mar-a-Lago.
While Slovenia was under Communist administration, the couple reared their daughter in the rural industrial town of Sevnica.
Viktor was a car trader, while Amalija Knavs worked in a textile industry.
Melanija Knauss, the 53-year-old former first lady, changed her name to Melania Knauss when she began modeling.
She moved to New York in 1996, met businessman Donald Trump two years later, and married him in 2005.
