Top Republican collapses in a terrifying moment caught on camera

Many in power aren’t in the best of health. It seems like they’re dropping like flies.

Now a top Republican collapses in a terrifying moment caught on camera.

Mississippi Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann, 77, gave lawmakers a scare on Wednesday when he suddenly collapsed on the state Senate floor during a legislative session.

Hosemann, who was presiding at the time, appeared to lose consciousness, falling forward into his microphone and podium before hitting the floor.

A livestream of the session captured gasps from lawmakers as the shocking moment unfolded, with some immediately rushing to his aid. The session was quickly recessed as concern filled the chamber.

“Oh my God, Delbert, Delbert,” a woman can be heard calling out in the footage, while multiple lawmakers soon began shouting for a nurse.

Medical staff treated Hosemann inside the Capitol, and according to Mississippi Today, he was “sitting upright shortly after he fell.”

Not long after, he was able to walk out of the building on his own and leave in a private vehicle.

His office did not provide details on what caused the collapse but reassured the public that he was “doing well” and in “good spirits” by the afternoon.

“He appreciates all of the medical staff and is eager to return to work,” his office said in a statement.

Hosemann, a longtime Republican leader, is widely considered a “likely candidate” for governor in 2027, as Gov. Tate Reeves will be termed out, according to the Mississippi Free Press.

A biography page for the lieutenant governor notes that he has been married for 54 years and has three children and nine grandchildren. An avid outdoorsman, Hosemann is also a former marathon runner who has competed in both the New York and Boston marathons.

Gov. Reeves offered his support and prayers for Hosemann following the incident, joining others across Mississippi who sent their well wishes.

State Senator Josh Harkins, a close ally of Hosemann’s, reassured the public that the lieutenant governor was in good spirits.

“I appreciate all of the calls and text messages concerning Lt. Governor Hosemann,” Harkins posted.

“As he walked out of the Capitol a little while ago, he looked at us and said, ‘Hey, that last bill was awful!’ He is doing well, and if I know him, he will be trying to come back to the Capitol today.”

While the episode was alarming, Hosemann’s quick recovery and sense of humor suggest he won’t be slowing down anytime soon.
