The former president is going for the jugular. And Kamala has no plan to fight back.
Because Trump clobbered her with a surprise she’s freaking out about.
Former President Donald Trump recently showed more willingness to debate Vice President Kamala Harris on the originally proposed date than he has in recent days.
Initially, when President Joe Biden was still in the race, a debate between Biden and Trump was set for September 10 on ABC News. However, with Harris now the Democratic presidential nominee, Trump has hesitated to stick to the agreed-upon debate schedule.
Speaking Wednesday on Fox News, Trump appeared more open to the idea of going through with the debate as planned.
“I don’t know how she debates,” Trump remarked.
“I hear she’s sort of a nasty person but not a good debater, but we’ll see because we’ll be debating her, I guess, in the pretty near future. It’s going to be announced fairly soon, but we’ll be debating her.
“I’d like to see it on Fox, by the way,” Trump added. “My preference would be Fox, but we have to debate.”
Trump attempted to move the debate to Fox News on September 4, but the Harris campaign declined the invitation.
The vice president has agreed only to the scheduled ABC News debate.
By Wednesday, Trump seemed more amenable to keeping the original debate date than he was over the weekend.
“I’ll see her on September 4th or, I won’t see her at all,” the former president posted Saturday on his Truth Social platform. He reiterated this stance at a campaign rally, saying, “We’re doing one with Fox, if she shows up.”
When asked by the Fox hosts if his campaign was working out debate details behind the scenes, Trump responded, “No, but I can tell you every network loves me. They love me very much. I’ve never been so loved.”
“I think debates are very important, and I think she’ll be exposed, just like Biden was exposed,” Trump emphasized.
Adding to the tension, Trump and ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos are embroiled in a legal battle.
Trump has sued Stephanopoulos and the network for defamation after the anchor misrepresented a jury’s decision regarding E. Jean Carroll’s accusations against Trump.
The jury had rejected Carroll’s claim that Trump r*ped her but did find him liable for a lesser degree of s*xual abuse.
When questioned about the potential conflict of interest in appearing on ABC News despite the lawsuit, Trump indicated he could use that as an excuse not to debate, but it did not seem he would.
Meanwhile, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), Harris’s running mate, expressed willingness to debate Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) on CBS News at an unspecified date.
Vance has stated he is ready to debate Walz, but only after Walz is officially confirmed as the Democratic vice presidential nominee at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in two weeks.
