Even an MSNBC veteran like Chris Matthews could not hide the truth when he appeared on Morning Joe this Thursday. The longtime host openly admitted that Iran is waging a deliberate campaign to politically destroy President Donald Trump, just as the ayatollahs once dismantled Jimmy Carter.
Matthews reached back to the dark days of the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis to make his point. He described how the radicals timed every humiliation to bleed Carter dry on nightly news broadcasts, turning the American public against a president they viewed as feeble.
“Cronkite would end this show with how many days the hostages have been held. They knew exactly what they’re doing. They were they were decapitating Jimmy Carter,” Matthews stated.
“And so the hostage to watch how every day they had the flag burnings, every day they had the trooping of the diplomats, the 50 diplomats walking around blindfolded to humiliate them. They were humiliating Carter every single day. And it was on our television. It was hurting Carter, and he ended up losing.”
The veteran commentator did not stop there. He laid out how the Iranians waited until after Ronald Reagan crushed Carter at the polls before releasing the hostages, proving their entire operation had one goal: removing a weak American leader from power.
“Carter was screwed. They never sent the hostages back until after he’d been beaten by Reagan. And then when he had left office, they knew exactly what they’re doing. They decapitated Carter,” Matthews continued.
“And I got to tell you, they’re doing the same thing to Trump. They know exactly what the Strait of Hormuz is doing to the — to the oil markets, to the markets generally. They know what we’re up to because Trump is on television all the time. They see him. They know how he works and how to hurt him. And they’re trying to decapitate him.”
Here we have it straight from the mouth of one of the left’s most trusted voices. Iran is not attacking America blindly. The regime is laser-focused on Trump because he stands in their way like no other president in decades.
Carter’s weakness invited chaos. He dithered, negotiated, and apologized while Americans were paraded blindfolded on global television. The result was a shattered presidency and a nation that felt humiliated right alongside its leader.
Trump offers the opposite model. He projects raw American strength, refuses to bow to foreign thugs, and puts U.S. interests first every single day. That is exactly why the mullahs are scrambling to repeat their old playbook.
