Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson just launched his new show on Twitter. But his future is uncertain.
That’s because Tucker Carlson’s lawyer delivered him insane news that completely took him by surprise.
No doubt, Tucker Carlson’s next move after his departure from Fox News was going to be highly anticipated given that he was one of the most watched personalities in all of cable news.
So when he announced that he’d be taking his efforts to a new show made on Twitter, millions upon millions of Americans were anxiously waiting to see that new show arrive.
On June 6, Carlson uploaded a video to Twitter to serve as Episode 1 of his new show over there on the platform, and it was met with unfathomable amount of attention and appreciation.
His upload has over 818,000 likes at the time of writing this article, with more than 105 million individuals seeing the post.
That is a ridiculous amount of views for anyone on the internet, anywhere.
But his riding high was quickly met with a major issue that he’s going to have to deal with before he can comfortably continue his career.
That issue is, once again, Fox News.
Anyone could have expected Fox News to go after Tucker Carlson any way they could because they wanted to fire him but not allow him to go work for anyone else. That’s the way the cable news predatory contracts work.
But the purpose of Tucker Carlson launching a show with Twitter is that he’s not exactly working for anyone. He’s exercising rights of freedom guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and available to anyone else in the country.
Fox News doesn’t exactly think so, apparently.
According to reports, Fox News is preparing a legal battle against Tucker Carlson on the basis that Carlson violated his contract with Fox News by launching his Twitter show. They are effectively telling him that he’s not allowed to appear anywhere with his journalistic efforts and opinions.
“This evening we were made aware of Mr. Tucker Carlson’s appearance on Twitter in a video that lasted over 10 minutes,” the Fox News legal team said in a letter sent to Carlson’s legal team.
“Pursuant to the terms of the Agreement, Mr. Carlson’s ‘services shall be completely exclusive to Fox,'” they added.
Fox continued on saying that Carlson was not to be “rendering services of any type whatsoever, whether ‘over the internet via streaming or similar distribution, or other digital distribution whether now known or hereafter devised.'”
That definitely sounds like a contract that might’ve been legally void to begin with because it could be infringing on natural rights of all American citizens.
Tucker Carlson’s lawyers shot back in a statement with the media that defended Carlson’s First Amendment rights.
“Fox defends its very existence on freedom of speech grounds. Now they want to take Tucker Carlson’s right to speak freely away from him because he took to social media to share his thoughts on current events,” Carlson’s lawyer responded.
Whatever you may think about Tucker Carlson, it’s hard to disagree that he’s being treated unfairly hear.
