Democrats will often cover for each other. But not all the time.
And what this Biden official just confessed to is truly stunning to hear.
The bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) was without a director for since the George Bush years in the mid 2000s.
Many believe that the ATF being without a director was a good thing as the federal agency has come under intense scrutiny over the years for lacking effectiveness and infringing on the constitutional rights of Americans.
Though, in July of 2022, Joe Biden’s second pick for the position as the ATF director, Steve Dettelbach, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
Steve Dettelbach recently appeared before Congress and gave Americans zero reason to trust him as the head of the ATF.
House Rep. Jake Ellzey (R-TX) asked the new ATF director to give him a definition of what an “assault weapon” is during Dettelbach’s appearance.
“What could you – in 15 seconds – would you define an assault weapon for me?” Ellzey asked of the ATF director.
The response that Dettelbach had for Rep. Ellzey was shocking to say the least.
Dettelbach admitted that he couldn’t give a definition of an assault weapon and even admitted that he’s “not a firearms expert.”
“I, unlike you, am not a firearms expert, to the same extent as you maybe, but we have people at ATF who can talk about velocity of firearms, what damage different kinds of firearms cause, so that whatever determination you chose to make would be an informed one,” Dettelbach said.
That’s right, the ATF director outright admitted to not being a firearms expert. Again, firearms is one of the things the ATF regulates and oversees.
It’s quite unbelievable to think that someone in such a high level position within a major federal agency could get there without being an expert on what the agency deals with.
Furthermore, if he and his fellow Democrats want to “ban” assault weapons as they keep saying, then defining an assault weapon should be important, right?
He says that it’s on Congress to define what an assault weapon is and that the ATF would be enforcing those rules.
However, that is not how the ATF has been acting in recent years. They’ve turned millions of Americans into felons overnight with their new ridiculous regulations on simple gun braces.
They didn’t let Congress pass those laws now did they? No, the ATF took matters into their own hands to crack down on law-abiding gun owners.
The truth is that any weapon can be an “assault weapon,” so it’s impossible to provide a real definition of what an assault weapon so you can ban them without outright violating the second amendment.
The second amendment is quite clear that the federal government should not be infringing on the rights of Americans to keep and bear arms. Bans on so-called “assault weapons” certainly infringes on those rights.
But the Democrats are so unknowledgeable on guns that they can’t even attempt to provide a definition of assault weapons so they can even try to ban them.
You know, one could argue that a knife is an assault weapon, right? It’s a weapon, and could be used to assault someone.
Or do the Democrats just mean they are scared of those big black guns?
