Republicans have a chance to do something big. And now it’s all coming together.
Because this GOP Governor handed Trump a surprise order that is making waves in Washington, D.C.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has ordered the Virginia State Police and Department of Corrections to actively support federal immigration enforcement, a major step in cracking down on criminal illegal immigrants.
On Thursday, Youngkin signed an executive order requiring these agencies to partner with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to establish a State Police Task Force.
This task force will consist of federally deputized troopers tasked with identifying and apprehending criminal illegal immigrants who pose a threat to public safety across Virginia.
The order emphasizes that these efforts will act as a “force multiplier” by empowering state law enforcement to enforce immigration laws under ICE oversight during routine duties.
The executive order, titled “Keeping Virginians Safe From Dangerous Illegal Immigrants,” cites disturbing examples of violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants in Virginia.
It highlights several cases, including a February 2024 incident where an Old Dominion University student was k*lled by an illegal immigrant with a long criminal record who had been ordered deported six years earlier. That same month, a 14-year-old girl was s*xually assaulted by an illegal immigrant in Campbell County.
In November 2024, a woman was attacked and r*ped by an illegal immigrant from Honduras while hiking in Herndon — a man who had reportedly had 29 prior encounters with law enforcement.
According to the order, 946 inmates in the Virginia Department of Corrections are currently under immigration detainers, meaning they are flagged for deportation. The numbers paint a grim picture: 90% of these inmates are violent criminals, 40% are r*pists or s*xual assailants, and 20% are m*rderers.
The order establishes a “Jail Enforcement Model” to identify and process illegal immigrants incarcerated in state and local correctional facilities.
It also calls for proactive cooperation between Virginia prisons and ICE, requiring county-run jails to confirm full cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
Youngkin made it clear that the connection between illegal immigration and violent crime cannot be ignored.
His order cites the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, which allows the federal government to delegate immigration enforcement duties to state and local law enforcement under Section 287(g) — a policy strengthened by a directive from President Donald Trump to maximize its use.
The move comes just days after President Trump appointed Youngkin to co-chair the bipartisan Council of Governors, a significant endorsement as Youngkin continues to take bold action on immigration and public safety.
Virginia Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, a Jamaican immigrant and a leading candidate to succeed the term-limited Youngkin, praised the executive order.
“We’ve seen too many tragic stories after dangerous criminals in this country illegally were put back on the streets, and this Executive Order will make sure we send them back to where they came from,” Earle-Sears said while announcing the policy.
With this latest action, Youngkin is making good on his promise to prioritize public safety and push back against the Biden administration’s weak immigration policies.
His administration is taking aggressive steps to ensure violent illegal immigrants are identified, detained, and removed from Virginia communities — before they can strike again.
